Damn right we do! :D My birthplace was a mere stone's throw away from the birthplace of that sacred nectar, Dr. Pepper. I consider it to be part of my family.

And yet, you don't even know how to spell it. It went from Dr. to Dr years ago! :P

I will always address the good Doctor in the formal manner befitting the rank.

So Deacon, when you drink one, does that qualify as incest or cannibalism?

It qualifies as reverential enjoyment of a precious resource.

I miss drinking Dr. Pepper. I was the only one in my family that liked it though.

And for some reason it seems to have basically disappered from Australian shelves (at least in local supermarkets).

You know what else that seems to have disappeared? Tab. At least I haven't seen it in coupla years(admittedly, I haven't exactly been looking).

I'm not old enough to remember Tab. I know of it through the Simpsons & Back to the Future.

The nice thing about the good Dr in the US at least is that it's not owned by Coke or Pepsi. That means you can get it almost anywhere. Place serves Pepsi products? They'll usually serve Dr Pepper too. Place serves Coke products? They'll usually serve Dr Pepper too. So you can almost always get the Dr when at a restraunt.

I've seen it in 2-liter bottles at the local supermarket. You could always come up to - wait a minute. I'm not going to encourage that.

I'm not a big fan of Tab, just an observation. In the 80's it was everywhere.

Not being owned by either Coke or Pepsi can lead to a soda's demise. Remember Virgin Cola? I thought it was better than both Coke and Pepsi, but because the major Supermarket chains wouldn't carry it because of contracts with the big two, it basically all but disappeared. I don't know anybody local that carries it.

Source? I ask because that makes no logical sense.

I thought that Dr. Pepper WAS a Coke product, cause whenever Coke products are on sale it usually includes Dr. Pepper in there.

And bah to you dmpotter! Are you going to yell at me because I still call Mr. Pibb "Mr. Pibb" and not "Pibb Xtra"?

And I say good riddance. My gym had an 80s theme party a few years ago, and we somehow procured a case of Tab...I drank it on a bet, and was nearly overpowered by the nutrasweet or whatever artificial sweetener of doom they use in there. It's the kind of drink that just screams 'this will give you cancer.'
I'm sick of following my dreams, man. I'm just gonna ask where they're going and meet up with 'em there.

The only thing I remember about TaB was finding an old can of it under an old house in Waco (visiting family friends there) and noticing that it was an honest to god adhesive tab that sealed the can, like you still find on occasion on cans of grapefruit juice or whatever. That and only girls drank it.

My source is somebody I know who studied the whole debacle in a marketing class. He's going to try to find his notes and textbook on it for me.

It's the same reason why you don't see certain brands in Home Depot, but you do in Lowe's. Philips in Home Depot springs to mind.

It's an effort to keep a new potential competitor from gaining a foothold. Imagine being told by a Coke that if they start stocking Virgin Cola in any store, Coke would pull ALL their products out of every store.

Richard Branson thought he was going to knock out Pepsi and Coke Cola. Unfortunately, he didn't realize just how entrenched they are.

The only place you could buy Virgin Cola was small Bodega's, and corner groceries. Places like Shop Rite and Pathmark simply weren't interested in upsetting the applecart.
