Real Life Parody?

Talk about today's strip, or anything about the comic in general. You can also talk about any of the characters... but don't expect a response. They're FICTIONAL, you guys... sheesh. :)

Is it not mature to simply shrug off someone who clearly has a contrary, bellicose, and in all likelihood unyielding opinion? Your post (Doctor Nick) seems nothing more than a weak attempt at provocation into a hostile response trap. And as we all know, Greg is the essence of a still blossoming fourteen year old; he should be setting foot in it very soon.

wocket: You don't know where these people come from - how is it immature to register to write what you think?

Saying "meh shrug" isn't really shrugging it off, especially when you have so much to say about the topic. For those who know Shmorky's sense of humor one would do best simply laughing at Shmorky's farce and saying "oh, that card."

I just don't think it's really worth getting riled up about, no matter what you think. Just sit back and chill out.

All Greg was simply stating was that they never asked his opinion, yet the website says that he did. If Dave Kelly wants to call Greg a 14 year old, then that is his choice. We just wanted to let you know that we didn't approve of that, even though he said we did.

Not that our approval means anything. He has changed enough of the comics where it can be considered parody and not infringe on any copyrights.

All I can ask is that you guys don't click that link anymore. You are welcome to speculate whether you think Greg or myself is upset about it, but we are not.

As far as what Doctor Nick said about Greg going to culinary school, I'm not really sure what that has to do with anything. Greg is going to culinary school because he wants to. We will still be trying to make the comic a business, but culinary school was something he wanted to do. He wanted a degree and he is going after his dreams.

Perhaps you misread? Nothing he's posted can be labeled anything near "hysterical". That's a pretty lame way to start off a post.
Also, when a person starts saying "Meh" and "*shrug*", it's a pretty sure indicator that they're boiling with internet rage.

Yeah, you're a real student of human communication. Congratulations on all your research success.

At first I thought you were referring to Dave Kellett, and I was all flabbergasted.

It's an unfortunate side effect that Dave Kelly and Dave Kellett have similar names when the talent gap is so wide.

Dr. Nick, you completely misread my post. I simply broke down the thin logic Kelly was using to justify his parodies, and replaced it with what I consider to be much BETTER logic, which frankly, he should put in place of his disclaimer. It's the truth - he's protected by parody, and whether I like it or not, he's completely within his rights to post that kind of thing. And I will NEVER begrudge him that, nor do I think it should be taken down. But don't go saying that "all the artists are cool with it" and that you have respect for them, and then say such obviously disrespectful things. Whether it hurt me or not is completely immaterial (it did not)... I just wanted to point out what I saw as a false statement.

But let me make it clear : I HONESTLY do not care. This is DAVE KELLY we're talking about. He's hardly a mover or shaker in the internet world, despite what he may think. And even were he, how does his opinion of my work affect me in any way? The only reason I've devoted this many words at THIS point is because you obviously misread my first post. Sometimes a "meh" is just a "meh".

What saddens me is that such a pathetic loser has actually been granted this much attention (and is being paid for by Keenspot).

Actually, now that I look at the site a little more, I'm downgrading him from "pathetic loser" to "disgusting jerkoff".

And I STILL wonder why Keenspot is hosting him. I mean, I know they host some crap, and First Amendment, and yada yada, but why are they paying for that steaming pile?

I thought the Penny Arcade one was amusing. The RL one was a little off, especially with the Greg quote under it.

Good lord. I DIDN'T EVEN GIVE A DAMN. I WAS FINE WITH LEAVING IT THE HELL ALONE. I didn't need a special disclaimer or some bullshit under it. I was just pointing out that his statement up top was not factual. If I ACTUALLY had a problem with it, I would have sent him an e-mail or something and bitched about it. I didn't do that, so now this addition under his comic feels like he's baiting me into a flamewar or something, and I didn't want to participate in something like that ANYWAY. THUS, THE *MEH*.

Says a lot that he'd be trolling my forums to see if anyone said something about his comic, though. Speaks a lot to his mindset, I suppose.

It's simply amazing how juvenile some people can be. :)

Oh goody, I'm glad it didn't escape you.
On topic, Greg, nice stance on the subject. I'm so glad we don't have to launch a flamewar on anyone.
