Talk about today's strip, or anything about the comic in general. You can also talk about any of the characters... but don't expect a response. They're FICTIONAL, you guys... sheesh.

...
Who the heck is Dave Kelly?
And how stupid are those comics...?
[And that comes from a Greek one...the ones who know parody from the ancient years.

Not really, it was against their beliefs. We don't have to agree with their beliefs or even understand them but if we're upsetting a whole culture then we just simply shouldn't do it. If the newspaper had just said "OK we're sorry, we won't publish the comics" then none of the problems would have happened. But people are too damn stubborn and they won't let someone else be right.

They weren't even particularly good comics.

I saw them a while back. They're crapshod.

Hi. Longtime reader, first time poster.
Yeah, uh, the paper DID apologize for the cartoons. They hadn't expected such a huge reaction to them. Most of the controversy stemmed from additional media coverage fanning the flames (much like additional input from posters fanning the flames in a forum war

).
I can understand apologizing for offending a group of people, its the polite thing to do, but are you then saying that we (as in all non muslim-extremists) should avoid doing anything that would ever offend this group of people? What makes them so damn special? You gotta draw the line somewhere. Especially when you look at the fact that the same group of people who got so worked up in this case, will commit acts of violence against those who don't share their beliefs. They need to accept that they are living in a world with other people and learn some damn tolerance, religion or not.

Not what I meant at all.
I just meant that anything that will offend a large number of people shouldn't be done. It's common courtesy.

I disagree. People should be exposed to things that offend them more often. It's healthy. Maybe they will learn to shut the fuck up and that the world doesn't revolve around them.
This especially applies to all religious fundamentalists.

Battalon's got the right idea. Also he introduced himself the way I prefer: Contributing writing of some worth to an already existing thread, rather than starting a new stupid thread, or one of those godawful Getting To Know You threads.
Short version: I like your style, kid.

Thanks. I've always found intro threads to be akward and uncomfortable. Its kinda like, "Hey, look at me. I don't have anything important to say but I'm here and you should care anyway."
And you are definitely right about exposure. Look at the Simpsons. They started out fairly tame, then slowly pushed the envelope, and now I don't think there's any major issue they haven't attacked. And they can get away with it. Plus its usually funny enough that people realize, "Y'know, this really isn't that big of a deal." At least for a few seconds.

I think that those strips weren't really meant to be viewed out of the context of the discussion that inspired them. That you all were made aware of them is only because of some random moronic troublemaker who wanted to stir things up.

Care to let us in on the context that did inspire the strip(s)?
I flicked through his archives, and failed to find any of them funny. Most were just plain insultive. Hardly parody.
I agree with someone's (I forgot who, and when I went to look for it I couldn't find it) suggestion about how he would parody RealLife. That would be funny.

Not talking specifically...but generally.
I just meant that anything that will offend a large number of people shouldn't be done.
Actually that's when it SHOULD be done.
-----
as for the thing with the muslims.
When they started attacking and killing people...not only had they lost any right they had on the subject...
but they also became animals...
[insert diabolical voice]and they should had been slaughtered like animals.[/]

I agree that they went WAY too far with killing people.
But the newspaper still should have stopped the problem before it started.
