Movie List HELP.

Post by Rancod » Mon Jun 05, 2006 11:51 pm

Hey all, I would like to ask your help in finding the best movies out there. Namely non mainstream or cult classics. *Trying to Woo (NO John *EDIT* WOO JOKES) a woman I know, and she is a major film buff*

The only ones I can think of off the top of my head are:
Glen Garry Glen Ross
Equilibrium
The Toxic Avenger.

Help.

Also, every time I see your av, which I notice before your name, I see that pixelated guy with a hat, and I think, Holy shit! Soth is back! Maybe he will say something about semantics! But then I look more closely and it's Rancod. Way to disappoint, man.

Holy crap man.

Big Trouble in Little China
Predator
Krull
The Thing (John Carpenter's and the original)
Any old movie with slow moving zombies
A Boy and his Dog (I think that was the name)

Ok, the last two aren't really good, but definately cult classics.

I know people are going to have their own opinions on this one, but one of my faves has always been Pulp Fiction. As a media student it is interesting to study, as a viewer it is great to watch!

The "Cool Devices" series. I also recomend anything that begins with "Debbie Does".

On a more serious note, are you looking for any specific genres or any movies at all? Science Fiction? Horror? Comedy? Historical? Romance? Musical?

I've heard "Rear Window" is good. As isFrom the Earth to the Moon and The Day the Earth Stood Still

Think weird scifi horror comedy. Something akin to a b movie version of Shawn of the Dead.

Bubba Ho-Tep.
It stars Bruce Cambell and Ozzie Davis as Elvis and JFK in an East Texas retirement home where they must do battle with an ancient soul stealing mummy.

Or if you want to go more towards more cinematic films, look at some Chinese films like Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, Hero, House of Flying Daggers, Iron Monkey and others.

Tokyo Godfathers, Grave of the Fireflies and Memories are three excellent and very non-mainstream (one of them is about homeless people) movies if you're into animation, nothing live-action strikes me at the moment. If she's really arthouse (or on hallucinogenic drugs) Cat Soup would be worth looking into as well.

If you want really obscure B movies with a good amount of humor and lost of gore, Try Battle Royale (there is also a sequel to this, but it isn't as good). It is pretty twisted.

One I haven't seen, but would like to is "Save The Green Planet". it's weird sprinkled with a good amount of fucked up.
