This is not a simple definition. I'm not asking what a particular error number means or why the sky is blue, things that have direct explanations and answers in easily located sources. Instead I have a simple but specific question regarding an ancillery area of the topic that's unlikely to be answered point-blank in normal reference sources. Yes, I'm sure I could eventually find the answer on my own, but it's a simple question with a simple answer that is much easier for someone to satisfy than for them to tell them off.
That you don't understand why people are told to RTFM and when it's appropriate to ask a question is disappointing.

Of course, if you'd ever looked at the World Cup bracket, you should have noticed the third place match. Doesn't really take that long to find.

If I were wondering about whether this comment about Germany and Portugal playing was in reference to past game or some future game with which I was unfamiliar, why would I go search for "world cup standings"?

Re: 2006 FIFA World Cup
If you refer to my mention of the Germany-Portugal game, it is quite clear from my post that the game is not yet played, the word should indicating possibility and no mention of a result should have made it obvious, add to that the silly habit in international tournaments to play for the third place which should be common knowledge.

It would be cool to incorporate a :sigh: type smiley.
Yes, you said "should" which is what made me wonder wtf in the first place, what prompted me to ask for simple clarification of what seemed to be implied. Regardless of what you think "should be common knowledge" it is not the common custom in the US for sports leagues to play for a third place, as there's one Champion, and the rest are Not Champions. There are no 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place trophies, and I had no particular reason to believe or assume that the World Cup brackets would be any different. The only setup I've heard like that would be the olympics. Because it seemed like you were referring to some sort of winner-gets-3rd-place type match, but having been previously unaware of any such arrangment, I asked for confirmation that I'd understood correctly. Then dmpotter replied with "lol google".

And somehow you managed take offence of simple comment apparently made in jest.
I wouldn'h have used google myself, FIFA website usually gives out info about the games.

I dunno, if Italy actually shows up theres a good chance Henry will just find a white flag somewhere and it will all be over very soon.

Fuck Italy. And to think, I missed the first 20 minutes where the actual goals were scored. Great. Watched the rest of the game with no scoring. Good opportunity for a cat nap or three, though. And Zidane should NOT have been ejected. A headbutt to the chest is purely a superficial thing, and the guy on the receiving end flopped (WHAT?!! ITALY FLOPPING?!?) hoping for the officials to notice. But none of the officials actually saw it. But they kept showing it on the big screen over and over until eventually one of the refs on the sideline gave in and claimed it. The American commentators were not complimentary at all of Zidane after the incident, but unless I've misunderstood the rules, there's no Instant Replay for that kind of thing, meaning the refs aren't supposed to look to the big screen to make the call, but they kept showing the headbutt repeatedly, and it took a few minutes before a ref broke down and lied about seeing it.
Bah. On IRC Mista said he was going out to get a Zidane jersey. I'm thinking about it, too, if I could figure out where to get one. And you all know, I don't even really like soccer all that much.

What a bad way to end a career. They would have won with Zidane. Now Little Italy is gonna be jammed for 2 weeks in Montréal.
The mafia won't kill anyone this years, many Italians gamblers will survive this time. Anyway, the squadra azzura still the same for me, a bunch of wuss and fakers doing cheap shots and lucky in every fucking games.

They won't miss any occasion to throw themselve on the ground. They have tried many time since the beginning of the world cup.
