Re-read your original post in this thread, no-one's taking your statement as a 'musing', as it was utter bollocks, littered with accusations about the conduct and decisions of the referees, and the rest was complete nonsense about politics.
-Oversized, low-scoring, warm-weather, outdoor hockey.
Bitter, much?
Pissed, actually. Particularly because you continue asking me to explain myself while rejecting every explanation.

Because your explanations don't explain fuck all.

You turned the U.S. team losing into some sort of political bollocks, and I (amongst others) asked you to qualify it, which you've failed to do.

I never said I was going to qualify it. Stop asking. Let it die.

So you want to be able to spout complete shite without censure?

Your post made several accusations about a perceived anti-American campaign by FIFA, of course people are going to pull you up on it, and ask you to explain.

If you don't want to explain it, don't make such ridiculous sweeping statements in the first place.

Stop trying to play the fucking victim.

You're either taking this a little too personal, or MAKING it too personal. Either way I don't appreciate it. My initial statement, regardless of how you want to view the CONTENT, was simply an exclamation. It stood on its own. You know what else would have stood on its own?
The referee is horrible. That's all I see. I love your instantly seeing political justification for it though, The Cid. You're ridiculous.
"Oh come on, you know that's bullshit" would also have worked. Anything beyond that just seems like you trying to add a middle finger to the mix. Personally, coming as I do from an area where sports fans ROUTINELY mutter vague inferences about official bias in any game for essentially any reason, I would have thought people would dismiss what I had to say. But no. That wasn't good enough.

Seriously. This has gotten petty.

Come now girls, don't be so anal, it's only footy, jumpers as goalposts and all that.
But man were the Saudis in a completely different level than Ukraine.
Ghana played very well against the Czheck, who really need Koller and Baros.
I may just be a sentimental fool but i wish the De Boer brothers, Reiziger, Kluivert, and the other old Holland/Ajax players were 10 years younger,oh, those were the days.

You're the one with the "OMFG EVERYONE HATES US 'CAUSE WE'RE AMERICAN!!1!1ONE!! " attitude.

Just admit you were talking shite when you accused FIFA of bias against the
U.S. team.

tankkisankari, got to agree, the Ukraine were something else, and yes, the older teams were much better....and so was the game.
Example: 1989, England vs Sweden, Terry Butcher covered in blood, but playing on...

See, now this is about you winning. I already admitted that. Several times. I'm just not going to completely BLAST myself for a statement that, around here, is a perfectly normal way to justify disappointment in a sporting event: blaming the officials, accusing them of disliking the team that you feel "got screwed."

I took it over the top. Didn't really feel like saying "man, the referees SUCKED in that match. Another bad break for a team that fell into a pretty tough group, a shame that this could mean the difference between advancing and being ousted. Fuck those refs." Considering that we're talking about a sport where people have thrown BANANAS on the field in protest of the race of a player, a sport where people die in the stands every now and then, and I'm talking to a person whose homeland is INFAMOUS for the behavior of their futbol fans, I didn't expect anyone to treat this as anything but the response of a fan that felt his team got robbed.

But of course, nooo...

"YANKEES SUCK" isn't exactly "vague," but... I doubt most people understand the Boston sports fan. I sure don't.

After the Patriots won the Superbowl, there were fans in the street cheering "YANKEES SUCK!" For those who don't know, the Yankees are New York's baseball team, and the Patriots are the Boston American football team. How are the two related? I dunno, but that's the Boston sports fan for you.

I can't be the only one who finds it ironic that there are many New England cars with a "YANKEES SUCK" bumpersticker on the back.

Besides, Boston residents should be used to losing at soccer/football: the New England Revolution have sucked for ages...

The Cid,
I'm ignoring the race card you're trying to play for three reasons.
1) It's completely irrelevant to the point in hand.
2) The U.S. doesn't have the best race record in the first place.
3) The 'race' issue belongs in the politics forum.

You didn't go 'over the top', you turned it into an anti anti-American rant, with no base in truth.

As I've previously mentioned, I'm Scottish, our football fans are universally regarded as some of the best on the planet, and are welcomed anywhere with no trouble whatsoever.

In lighter news, England are going to get fucked by the Swedes tomorrow.
I've go for 3-1.

So has the league in which they play. I don't blame any MLS team for sucking, because it's all just the degree to which they suck.

The Y word is another complaint I have with the treatment of the US team in the World Cup. Some of us do NOT identify with that term!

You've never heard of the term "New England Yankee" before? New Englanders have been called Yankees for ages (being about the only region in the country that everyone agrees are Yankees).

Go look up the word yankee in a dictionary. The first definition is "a person from New England." Then you move on to "a person from the northern states, especially a Union soldier during the Civil War." Then you finally have "a person from the United States."

You should identify with the term, because New Englanders have traditionally been called Yankees. Regardless of what some overpaid team from New York calls themselves. :P

One last try.

I live on the East Coast of the United States. Particularly, Boston. We have quite a few teams that play a variety of sports up here. We also have a large contingent of, as DM so eloquently put it, people who are very difficult to understand. We are, to put it simply, tightly-wound when it comes to sports.

This ends up making us look pretty ridiculous from time to time (perhaps you remember a news report of the weird baseball fans like me rejoicing and renewing their faith in a greater power circa October, 2004). I'll admit that. We also have certain tendancies when a close game doesn't turn out quite the way we hoped.

1) Blame ONE GUY for all of it. For example, Bill Buckner missed a play in the 1986 World Series after the game had already been tied, yet he is blamed for taking a "win" and turning it into a "loss."

2) Blame DEAD FAT PEOPLE for it.

3) Blame those overseeing the contest because they are obviously out to get us.

Usually, when someone says this kind of stuff in the US, people dismiss it really quickly as an excuse or simply blowing off steam. If that's not the case in Scotland, I apologize for the confusion.

Yes. And we all know what the British call a cigarette, but I don't like it when people volley that word at ME.

Actually, when someone says something like that anywhere else in the world, they are looked upon as absolute jackasses.

Henke makes me spunk tears of pure joy.

World Cup. World Cup. The very next person to turn this thread into a tribute to the victims of 9/11, or whatever the hell, is getting shafted with a corn-cob.
