Boston Marathon

Post by ZinRemsoh » Mon Apr 21, 2003 10:18 pm

Anyone go to the boston marathon to run/watch/help out/support other people?

Me and some kids from my high school Cross country team went and ran the first 8 miles. Wasn't that bad, though I couldn't go that pace for more than 14 miles probably.

I would run the Boston Marathon save for a few things-

1. I hate people. You included.
2. I'm lazy.
3. I could better spend the time doing something constructive, like shooting a potato cannon at people I don't like.
SIG TREND OF THE MONTH IS BLANK SIGS BECAUSE I GOT LAZY AND DIDN'T MAKE THE THING AND STUFF.

This thing is for 14 miles? Sheesh. I can walk that many without being winded, probably only take me an hour (I walk very fast) but I don't think I could comfortably jog or run even a fraction of that distance.

I used to watch the Boston Marathon in person every year, but since I am no longer near Boston (acursed being known as college be blamed!) I cannot stand on the sidelines as hundreds of men with tape on their nipples run by.

My Uncle Anthony used to run in it but now he lives in Norway.

I wonder if that old Korean guy that looks like a skeleton with skin will win again this year...

26 miles, actualy. The fastest runner ran it in 2:10:11. That's sprinting the whole thing basicaly. It took me almost an hour to get to the 8 mile mark. And I was trying to jog fast!

But what I really like is the people on the sidelines. There all very supportive. Because I wasn't an official entrant, I wasn't allowed to take any of the water the officals were handing out every mile. But some random spectators were handing out water. Even though I didn't drink any, I used it to cool myself down. I couldn't of done it without them.

My dad works for a subsidiary of John Hancock, which is like the primary sponsor of the marathon, so about half of his company went down to Boston for the day. He didn't go this year, but he's done it in the past. They were in charge of the logistic side of things... the handing out of numbers, transportion for everyone, etc. It's sort of a big deal when this happens every year.

And now I have a friend who's been in the marathon! Cool!

cool, go runners!
yeah, btw world record = 2:06 'n whatever seconds. That's 26.2 miles at 4:48 each. think about how crazy that is. the average high school runner is entirely happy to just be under 5 min for one mile, and that's running it all-out, using everything you have by the end.
marathon runners = craziest atheletes in the world
