US Army set to hit recruiting goals
No person was ever honored for what he received. Honor has been the reward for what he gave. -- Calvin Coolidge
Today's liberals wish to disarm us so they can run their evil and oppressive agenda on us. The fight against crime is just a convenient excuse to further their agenda. I don't know about you, but if you hear that Williams' guns have been taken, you'll know Williams is dead. -- Walter Williams, Professor of Economics, George Mason University

Nuh-uh!!
Jeff Spara, in charge of Army recruiting policy, denied the Army has been making its recruiting goals by taking lower-quality volunteers who previously might have been rejected, as some experts contend.

Yea, that guy with the tattoo showing when wearing a t-shirt is such a lower standard than the guy without one.
Guys, I work at a base with students (read: right out of boot/basic) of all branches. They aren't any 'worse' or whatnot.

By the simple fact that they are not being Marines, they are CLEARLY sub-standard.

They've been steadily dropping requirments for the last decade and a half. When I tried to join the Army in early 91, I took the ASVAB "quickee" test, scored in the 98th percentile. The guy next to me, who scored like 38%, and WAS BEING COACHED BY A RECRUITER, was taking it for the third time - the passing score at the time was 50th percentile. I heard a coupla months later, they dropped minimum passing score to 30%.
and oh, Arres, just because they're not as good as Marines at mopping floors, doesn't make 'em substandard.

Hah, I didn't know the ASVAB had a minimum of 50 for the army..hell, when I was doing recruiters assistance after basic training, he had me mail letters to everyone who took it and got a 35 or higher. And that was the Air Force. And with all due respect to the ASVAB (rofl), it has very little to do with being a good combat soldier.

No, but it is a good indicator of relative intelligence and ability to learn.
When you can't do basic addition, I doubt they want you holding a SAW.

Ever fired a gun in your life Werechicken?
Ever been fired at?
Shut up.
Oh, but of course British soldiers never fire on friendly targets.
In the 1991 Gulf War, the number of friendly fire deaths was originally estimated at 10. After investigation, it was determined that 35 of 147 combat deaths were from friendly fire.
The Gulf War was the lowest casualty war since the revolutionary war. I'd have to do some research for the recent conflicts, but I'm willing to bet that when you look at the ratio of friendly fire casualties to enemy casualties, it's very small. It's never acceptable, but it will never be eliminated either.

When somebody is too stupid to add 13+6 in their head, do you really want them holding belt fed machineguns? I enjoy living, thankyou.
And Werechicken, the enlistment standards are even lower in the British Military.
