I seriously doubt that he's truly an independent thinker when it comes to his looks. He fits right in with probably half the guys in whatever office he works in. And if he's really so calculating, I'd love to hear how exactly he arrived at the conclusion that his choices make him attractive.

Actually, I've seen some of the guys that he works with, both from Counterpane (the company he founded) and from the industry like researchers Ron Rivest and Whitfield Diffie. The Counterpane people are mostly clean-cut and dress conservatively, and the same goes for Ron Rivest. Diffie is a completely different animal, and has a beard and long hair (though it is a full head and he wears it down). Put some tinted glasses on him, and he'd melt right into Haight-Ashbury circa 1969.
