Yes, I do remember that he's been convicted of rape. However, one can't deny that this guy was once a great fighter who entertained a lot of boxing fans, and the public in general. However, I think that part of the blame for how he turned out was due to the fact that his original trainer, Cus D'Amato ( a legendary trainer), died when Mike was still young. After that there was nothing to keep him from being completely taken advantage of by Don King. Kinda sad, imo, to see someone reduced to being a casino sideshow attraction to be gaped at by tourists.

Yo Mav, I'm real happy for you and Imma let you finish but Hirschoff had the best sig trends of all time.
Very philosophical. You could make all kinds of parallels with this.
Or parrelells, or parralels, or HOWEVER that's spelt. I hate that word. No alternatives, either.

Why would you not quickly check on a word when you're not sure of the correct spelling? That seems a lot more sensible to me than commenting on how you're not sure about it.
This is even ignoring the fact most browsers can be outfitted with some type of spell checking ability.

So goes the sport of boxing actually. The sport itself has become secondary, in part for lack of an adequate star prizefighter since Tyson went crazy.
Guys like Tyson, Maurice Clarett, Barry Bonds, and Jamal Lewis are proof behind the notion that you should never molly-coddle young, talented athletes. They start to believe they can get away with murder. Mike Tyson was handled extremely poorly by his trainers after D'Amato's death. And to an extent, they must share in the blame for this monster. Tyson, you see, is essentially retarded. When given the opportunity to comment about an upcoming opponent, Tyson is liable to say something like "I'm going to eat his children." He came to them as an established fighter. They should have known about his idiocy and his extremely violent tendancies. But they gave him the golden ticket: a gigantic pile of money. "Here, go buy yourself a new everything." He was in a video game. He was unbeatable. He was Iron Mike fucking Tyson, the in-your-face not at all subtle late 80s answer to Ali. A gigantic pinhead with a funny voice. The Champ.
When you tell a stupid, violent young man with a troubled past, dead mentor, and all the damn money in the world that he's The Champ, and you give him that golden ticket you unleash a monster upon the world. Cus D'Amato wouldn't have let that happen, and everyone seems to know that.
Mike is responsible for his own crimes, his own stupid actions. It's HIS fault he threw everything away like an idiot, because he IS an idiot. He should, in all fairness, still probably BE in prison for the crimes he committed. I'm not trying to blame someone else for Tyson being a violent criminal idiot who has no place in society.
I'm just saying that he got no help. None. And that there were people out there who had the opportunity to keep Tyson on the good side, who instead exploited him for money. It's been the same since boxing began, and it'll happen to many more young fighters.
Thing is, soon enough nobody's going to care about this corrupt sport anymore. It's a shame there are no good fights to watch. Maybe it's a sign that we shouldn't be watching big motherfuckers beat each other retarded.

Speak for yourself. I still watch bouts in the middleweight and surrounding categories. They're much more entertaining than most heavyweight fights, though it was fun to watch Lennox Lewis in the ring.

If I show up at your door, chances are you did something to bring me there.
Re: Mike Tyson now a sideshow act.
I agree with Martin, the lighter weight classes are a blast to watch, I particularly like the Welterweights - these guys are so light, they simply lack the muscle to knock the oponent out, so there's a lot less blocking and dancing around the ring. I once watched a welterweight fight that went for 10 rounds - one fighter threw over 1200(!) punches, the other, over 900. It's entertaining to watch skinny little guys beat the crap out of each other.

I still prefer to watch MMA. When I watch boxing, I find myself being annoyed that they can't kick, that they get separated if they grab onto one another, and that they can't go to the ground. I've never been a boxing buff to begin with, but then too much Pride and UFC and such have spoiled me on sports such as that.

Bah, boxing, UFC, MMA.. They're all so 20th century..

Anyone else remember Speedball II on the Amiga? I say we all stop watching useless crap like boxing, MMA and UFC, strap armored plating on those guys, allow bionic implants and steroids, and have them pulverize each other over a steel ball between two small goals. We'll get them to air it on Outdoor Living Network, since they're so fucosed on the outdoors with them getting the contract for NHL games and all...
