Sept 25th, 06 comic. New angles?

Talk about today's strip, or anything about the comic in general. You can also talk about any of the characters... but don't expect a response. They're FICTIONAL, you guys... sheesh. :)

Sinking food does pretty much blow, and unless you have bottom feeders like Catfish or "Algae eaters", it's a waste of money.

The grey stuff you're referring to is "Ammonia absorber", I've used it before when I've had an Ammonia spike due to adding too many fish too soon.

You'd like "Nanoreefs" - small reef tanks(I've got a 15 gallon tank set aside for just this), that don't have filters at all - just a regular small waterchange, more to replenish the minerals the "live rock" needs. All they generally have is some intense lighting, and a powerhead for circulation. All they usually have in them is a single clown, which looks kinda odd with 50lbs or more of live rock in the tank.

I just realized that I have no active setups, yet have something like a half dozen tanks, as well as stands for two more(30"x12" and 72" x 18") :(

I've got a tall 60-gallon tank that used to be the turtles' home that I'm planning on making into a freshwater fish tank once I get some time and money. I need to get new filtration and a new hood for it.

We have a pleco in the turtle tank too. It's a big sucker. (Excuse the pun) Anyways, that big old thing doesn't take care of even half of the algae and crap (another pun) that is on the bottom. =(

...aquarium geeks...

::sigh::

Back on the original topic (i.e. how ridiculously awesome this arc is,) this arc is ridiculously awesome. Keep it up, Greg. I can't wait to see how this continues to unfold.

That is not adaquate compensation for aquarium geekery...!

Unless... Did you feed them secret agents and/or inept henchmen? That would do it.

Piranha's are weird fish man, in school's, they'd strip a cow down to bones in minutes, but if you only keep a few of them? They seem to need to egg each other on to kill and eat gold fish.

Still, I never put my hand in the tank..

But for all around creepy factor, you can't beat a Snakehead. A real eating machine, and to top it off, they have a primitive lung, and can travel overland.

The one we had was 2 feet long, would eat 30 or so gold fish at a shot, and would make escape attempts on a monthly basis.

Actually, depending on how big they are you can stick your hand in there with no problem. I work in a pet shop and granted all our piranha are babies, when we stick our hands in to clean the glass, they swim away. Just make sure they are well fed.

The ones I had were definitely not babies, and would attack anything that went into the tank, including nets. Like I said, it was wierd, they'd hesitate, seem to almost egg each other on, than they'd go nuts.

Personally, I got fed up with live feeders a long, loooonnnngg time ago - it's just too much of a pain.

I think the only reason I'd get any live feeders in the first place would be to set up a cichlid tank. Even then it would be a special set up with black gravel, yellow cichlids and Steeler's posters on either side. Had a family in last night who want to do the same thing but with Tiger Barbs (silly Bengals fans...Tiger Barbs aren't as cool as Cichlids).

Why would you need live feeders for Cichlids? I've kept a variety of them(Oscars, Jack Dempsey's, Firemouths, some African's), and none of them "required" live food(although the Oscars were fond of brine shrimp and goldfish).

But a Steeler's themed tank? Hmm.. :)

I think if I had the time, I'd design a "sumberged San Francisco" tank background. Essentially, a view of our fine city after the ice caps melt or the creatures from the Abyss take revenge. :)

You think you got it bad? I'm barely 100 feet above sea level. The highest point here is the top of the fresh kills landfill. :o
