What Just Happened in the Student Union Building (rave)

Post by wocket » Wed Oct 18, 2006 6:03 pm

Sometimes outside business owners show up for a day or so and set up shop in the Student Union Building.
Today was no exception. The business was "Cute Stuff", and the stuff really WAS cute. I picked out $15 worth of cute stuff (4 headbands, to be divided between my two neices at Christmas, one bracelet for my sister at Christmas, and earrings for me NOW.) One problem. They didn't accept credit or debit cards. Only cash and checks.
So quick go I around the corner to the ATM. Woe! The account PIN and the card PIN are different. I do not remember wtf the card PIN is. I explain the situation to the nice woman running the business.
"Seems like something your bank needs to straighten out."
...Luckily for me, my bank has an office RIGHT DOWN THE HALL (hell yeah PSECU being located right on campus), so I go to get it straightened out.
...I should get my new card PIN in the mail in 3-5 business days. >.< On the bright side, at about 5 pm I can use my student ID as a way to check my account via ATM (yay having it PINed).
I run back to Ms. Business Owner, who cheerfully says "oh, well. That's terrible. You said these were Christmas presents?"
I nod.
"Well, then, mail me a check for the amount. Here's my card, and here's a bag for your stuff."
WHOA WAIT HOLD THE PHONE!
"You...I...what?" I manage to stammer out. At this point up is down, right is left, and I'm amazed we're not standing on the ceiling.
"Well, you look like an honest girl who's just run into a bind," she responds brightly, bagging my stuff for me.
"!" I manage to somehow vocalize.
"I trust you. I trust all my customers. And if you want to cheat me out of $15, well, there's worse things to be cheated out of. At least now your neices will get their Christmas gifts."

...I want this woman's faith in humanity. And yes, the check is going out ASAP.

Also, the Cute Stuff website can be found here. Go. Give that woman your traffic and your business. She deserves it for being amazing and brightening my day.

(On a completely separate note, at the PSECU office they kept talking about my PIN number. Why yes, folks, I WOULD like to reset my Personal Identification Number Number. Thank you.)

No sir. Then I'd have my conscience yelling at me and I'd eventually go batshit insane and end up on the streetcorner yelling about how the UFOs control the Jews and other crackpot nonsense.

Hell yeah it is. I like how it applies to EVERYTHING in stock. Like, even those cards that hold 9 pairs of earrings are only counted as one item. It's amazing.

Oh! And just a note: The reason they couldn't accept credit or debit cards was because they didn't have a working machine on them at the time. I'm pretty sure they can accept credit via their website. So don't let that deter you.

I love such things. Like that time the lady gave me the Pizza for free (made her take $2 in change I scounged up), because I thought I had a $10, and it turned out to be a $1.

I've been back there MANY times. :D

That's totally awesome, but couldn't you have withdrawn money from your bank when you went to get your card fixed? :?

That stuff probably only costs her a few bucks to make. If she had seen you for your actual, terrible self, she'd have been out $15 instead.

BUt yeah, her stuff is awesome and so is she. Link her in your signature for awhile.
All my love, sincerely,

No. PSECU is odd like that. They have an office in the Student Union Building, but there's no money there. It's only for setting up an account, getting cards PINed, or going when you have a problem. Withdrawals can only be made from the ATMs.
Odd. I know. But hey, it's still a good credit union for college kids.
