Except for the new furniture you now have to buy to replace the old furniture. I think that counts as monetary loss. Also, I know this sounds weird, but I have been in a similar situation, and this was what I did. Do you live near a military base and have a garbage day where they will take anything for people to the dump? If you do, then it is a good strategy to go to the military base on one of these days. Almost definitely you will find some furniture that is in perfect condition but is being thrown away because the guy is going to Iraq. I live close to Ft. Hood and did this, but it is different here because everyone here is constantly going to Iraq, but it might work. I know it sounds grungy, but when you have to do something, you mise well just do it.

I have nothing but clothes. My daughter has clothes and a lot of toys.
I live in a rural area... biggest town nearest me really only has a Wal Mart for the major shopping store. I lost a lot of things, yes.. but to be here with my family and such.. it is worth having to rebuild again.

Ummmmm... how are you on money? They have places where you can get necessary things to survive for free, and, sometimes, things like furniture and such, too. These will probably involve going to christian-sponsored areas, but they don't usually preach to you (actually, a lot of places, like my old church, they are told not to. Just to let their actions speak), as long as you don't have them help you move the stuff or do any work WITH you, then they tend to go apeshit and can't restrain themselves.

I'm fine... really, lol. I have a couple thousand right now, I still get paid from my job, and soon starting one for the state that the starting pay rate is $25k/yr. I'll be fine. :) Why I am not worried.. just sucks because there are some CDs and movies I want right now :P Just because I live in a small place, doesn't mean I don't have any money... back on subject now.

Other then perfumes, I think movies are becoming my new money pit. Been wanting to start a collection. I won't stop once I start though.

Whenever I save up a deccent chunk of cash (Or when I don't!) I end up spending it all on travel, so travelling is my money pit.

The thing that slows DOWN my savings the most (Day to day) is spending too much on food... procrastinating at home until it's time to go to work without having packed a lunch is a VERY common occurance.

...

Like to day.

...

speaking of which, I'm late for work.

Man this thread depressed me... brings to my attention certain realities I normally happily ignore. I'm a sucker for entertainment:

630 DVD's (at last count)
Approximately $9,450 averaged at $15 a pop, since most of them were new releases when purchased, and many are seasons of shows (24, Alias, 4400, several anime collections I count as 1 movie, etc)... though at least 100 were $5 bargain bin. Purchased between April 2000 and now. I remember the month because that's when I left the Air Force, and I bought my first DVD player right as I moved to my new job.

520 CD's (at last count)
$4,160, provided they were $8 each if I needed to replace them (and found some used ones). CD prices fluctuate so wildly though, I can't be sure. I like to own what I listen to. I have a big ole CD file cabinet full. Goes back to 1994, when I converted from Casette to CD.

Guitar equipment
3 Jackson guitars, half-stack, 7 effects pedals, 4 rack mount effects, cases, boxes of packs of strings, boxes of picks, floor stands, travel stands, wall-mount hangers, etc.
This year alone I think has cost me around $5,500 over the course of the year.

Beer
I go through at least $80 a week on microbrews. Much, much more if my friends and I hit Capital Ale House.

I spend way too much money.

Someone smack me... please...

... I need a beer.

LQDMTL, wow, 630 DVDs.

Once you hit a nice round number like 800, sell them all on ebay as one package

I don't think I could go back to not having them. Maybe once the industry decides whether to go with BluRay or HDDVD I'll start replacing them one by one and then sell them all off in a big batch... even at $5 a pop I'd make bank.

I think I have discovered a new money pit for me. Sewing. Buying fabric specifically. Soon everyone I know will have more pillows and pillow cases than necessary MWAHAHAHAHAHA!
