I come from a military service world. The seperation between worker bees and boss bees is pretty strict. The idea that the manager shouldn't be hanging out with some employees isn't shocking to me.
That's kind of part of my point. There are important jobs, and then there are jobs like Walmart, where it's like, you know...JUST Walmart. No one is going to be president of the world, here. It wouldn't kill anyone to loosen up a bit :P

Just in your off time ask your new manager what the correct amounts of Film Developer Starter you need to fill an empty Developer tank.

when she asks why, just reply "oh, no reason." and whistle while you walk away.
Actually, it is strictly against Wal-Mart policy to fraternize with people you are over. She could easily get fired and they take that stuff with massive seriousness. I had my CSM get demoted for that reason because she took some coworkers to breakfast.
I believe that hourly associates are permitted to do things with other hourly associates outside of work, but yu cannot accept or give gifts (such as buying a lunch). Salaried members have to live in a cave up in the mountains and only speak with other salaried members outside of work.

Yes. I find it hard to come up with large amounts of pity for people working at minimum wage jobs

I don't know how much Sneaky gets paid, but all the Walmarts I know of (and the Target I worked at) paid over minimum wage.

Because EVERYBODY can be hired at a readily available high-paying job where they are treated with respect and the managers cater to their employees' schedules outside of work!
This include college students!

Not to mention that those high-paying jobs automatically equate to not having to put up with bullshit while working. Yup...that's what it means...

Actually, Bilif, the gifts thing applies to people outside the company giving gifts to people inside the company. For example, you, as a cart-pusher get a tip for helping somebody get something into a car. You aren't supposed to take the tip because of this rule. There aren't any rules regarding the relationship between people of equal standing or even managers and non-managers. It all has to do with a person not being able to be close friends with someone else that is either part of another stage of your department's process i.e. a cashier being friends with someone from cash office, or is someone that they would give any type of performance review on. That is actually pretty much how it's worded, except, you know, more concise and professional.

Heh, my aunt works the cash office in the store I worked in. MWAHAHAHA

I have no clue what Target's policies are concerning relationships between executives(and lower management) and the peons- but ever since the store opened those kinds of relationships could have fueled a soap opera or two.

Yeah, they still exist, obviously. It's more often than not used as a tool to keep people from forming a clique to oppose the main clique. Ours was this weird lesbian conspiracy thing. It was hilarious.

I met her today, and she shook my hand. She has a nice smile, but her handshake was weak. I hate hate HATE a limp handshake. She just kinda stuck her hand out and made me do all the shaking, which I couldn't very well, because it's hard to shake someone's hand when they're not putting any effort into it.

Can I judge her based on that?

Oh I hate limp handshaking, ESPECIALLY from women. Fucking man up and give a good solid shake. Ugh.

I am also in agreement.

I shake firmly.

EDIT: *sigh*

Gah, I HATE HATE HATE limp handshakes!!! Limp != feminine! I like a half-decent demonstration of hand- and wrist-strength.

I guess you could make a character judgment on that. Am I the only one that isn't bugged by limp handshakes? I can identify them and such, but I have big hands so I can easily control their ummmmm... hand shakage... Now, people that try and make shaking hands as a test of strength, that annoys me. It's not so much the hand hurting thing because there are tricks to that and it has nothing to do with grip strength (get their knuckles in your grip and just grind them back and forth), more the evil eye you get as this guy formally introduces himself by attempting an impromptu game of mercy. I usually win, though, using the aforementioned trick. Serves the idiots right.

As you can see, I have put WAY too much thought into this. :p
