Well even if freezing didn't kill, which would seem to me that it would remove the ability for whatever force was animating that body to use it as the ice crystals would cause almost as much damage as destroying all the flesh. However that's a real unknown. If we're talking virus zombies freezing should kill, otherwise it'll disable or kill...but even if they're just disabled if you go to a region that's perminatly cold (Alaska) they should be disabled pretty much indefinably and so, for purposes of your survival, could be considered dead.

(Couple spelling errors, but since FF recommend determinately for perminatly I give up)

jimkatai, there are also voodoo zombies.

Blaze pick from this list of zombies and I think you will get a more accurate answer.

Voodoo zombies, as described in your link and in the movie / book Serpent and the Rainbow, are not really zombies. They are people who were brought to near death, held in a medical coma at a heartrate that indicates death (undetectible heartbeat), and then are later revived... with or without brain damage from oxygen depravation.

They didn't die. Therefor they aren't zombies. They're just living people who've been severely fucked with. And thus they're prone to the same fates that we are... which includes freezing, blowing their head off, etc.

Actually the Hell reason was first given in Dawn of the Dead, not Night.

Ken Foree said "When there's no more room in Hell, the dead will walk the Earth."

Go watch Night of the Living Dead again. A guy on TV says it when they're huddled up in the house.

No, you're wrong. It was in Dawn of the Dead on television when they were watching the news. Hell, it was the tagline on the movie poster.

Tagline on the Dawn of the Dead Movie poster: I never disputed that. That doesn't mean it couldn't have been said in Night of the Living Dead. Being in one doesn't preclude it from being in the other.

Tigger: posting a pic of the movie poster solves nothing. It doesn't prove that it wasn't also said in Night of the Living Dead. It simply proves that it was said in Dawn of the Dead, which I wasn't disputing.

However, due to your adamance I went to google video, fired up the free copy of Night of the Living Dead (it's in public domain) and scrolled through to the radio / tv spots. And I was wrong. However, I just watched both Night and Dawn of the dead on Halloween and I could have swore I heard the line in both movies.

I would not argue with Jezebel on any zombie-related matter.

For reference, I have very little interest in and do not understand the allure or seemingly timeless interest in all things zombie...or anything zombie for that matter. Jez, on the other hand, seems to have forgotten far more shit than I've ever known on the subject.

Ummmmm... in D&D, at least, it isn't just disrupting the negative energy force that kills a zombie (or anything undead). You can also reduce their hit points to zero (anything else except for constructs die at -10 instead) which would indicate that it is effected by bodily harm. Zombies and other undead are immune to critical hits because they lack the capacity to feel pain and are thus unhindered. Vampires are a special case since they also don't die at 0 hit points, they turn to vapor and rematerialize in a day or so.

They turn to vapor and must reach their coffin within two hours, at which point they're helpless. If the coffin is out of their reach, they're destroyed. (Source: Monster Manual 3.5ed. pg. 254. Vampire special abilities, Fast Healing.)

It's not zombies in particular, but horror that interests me. Zombie movies are but a small part of the encyclopedia of all things scary that I have in my mind. Some people are into sports, I'm into serial killers, zombies, and things that go bump in the night.

We fought a vampire or two in a campaign a few years ago. They kept coming back, so when we found the coffins that's exactly what we did. No more vamps, and we got extra XP for being creative!
