Any webcomic reccomendations?

Post by Demonwolf » Sun Nov 05, 2006 12:45 am

So far I've read-

PvP (although I fell out of the habit a while ago)
Penny Arcade (how very cliche of me)
Scary Go Round
Diesel Sweeties
Sinfest
Something Positive
Queen of Wands
8-bit Theater
Misfile
Megatokyo
Chugworth Academy
VG Cats
RPG World (got pretty far into it...)
Edit: Real Life {(6.022 x 10^23)(Duh)}
Order of the Stick

There are definitely others, but those are the only ones I remember readily. If you've got any others to recommend, feel free.

xkcd

It's dorky, it's stick figure, but some of the panels are pretty damn priceless.

Seconded, seconded, a thousand times seconded.

Also, check out Gone With the Blastwave. The auther seems to be a bit of a douche, but the comic itself is great.

I don't second that xkcd thingy. It's just not funny.

Bunny (http://bunny.frozenreality.co.uk) is far better. Oh, and http://www.questionablecontent.net, http://www.darkencomic.com, http://pixelcomic.net, and http://agfc.deskslave.org/ are all good.

Questionable Content was good... until the author decided to stop getting better at drawing and started sucking at it. :(

Shameless plug of my own work. The plot and dialogue are sometimes worse than Retarded Animal Babies and six times less funny, but it's colorful and kind of pretty... and stuff. I'm going to try and get back into the one-shot strips instead of the ones that continue on and on. They get annoying and leave little room for spontaneity.

Lets see what webcomics I have you don't read.

How about Ctrl+Alt+Del? It's sometimes cliche but often funny, in a completely random way :P.

Or perhaps Evil Inc. would be more to your liking? It's sometimes funny but more hit and miss than Ctrl+Alt+Del

And the only other one on my list is Applegeeks, which is sometimes funny, often series, but pretty much always looks good.

Pretty much all the webcomics I read are ones from the link section of RL's main page :P, hope you find them at least mildly intriguing.

Binks, for shame. CAD sucks balls. It is unfunny, unoriginal, poorly written and the artwork is only mediocre.

web comics actually worth reading (besides RLC):

http://www.somethingpositive.net has not the best art, but some damn good storylines

http://www.applegeeks.com has probably the best webcomic art there is and damn good stories to go with it

http://www.shortpacked.com/ is one I picked up recently. It isn't the greatest, but it has some good, fairly clean humor. If you like Real Life I suggest checking this one out.

http://www.pressstarttoplay.net/ Good artwork, usually pretty funny, but kinda sporadic in updates.

http://www.petprofessional.net/ I dojn't know if I like the newest artist, but the original artist of the strip was really good and the time.

http://www.vgcats.com/ Great art and always funny. The only bad side is that it only updatesonce a week and although it is supposed to be on a monday, that doesn't always happen.

If you're looking for time fillers, going through the massive archives of Shortpacked! predecessors Roomies! and It's Walky! might be a fun move. Be prepared to get very lost with the plot though.

El Goonish Shive is another good one but, as with Roomies!/It's Walky!, it's not one you can just jump into. So better to begin at the beginning. Don't be scared off by the initial density of the archives, unlike Willis' output it soon throttles back to a more respectable rate. (This does however mean that many of the stories that read perfectly fine in the archives would have caused much pain to readers waiting for each new instalment to trickle in. Something to look forward to if you do get hooked.)

Count Your Sheep - Its just funny and cute. Every now and then there's a comic and you go "wow, so right". Read from the beginning, its amazing to see his style change over time.
Wapsi Square - I like it and find it funny.
Little Gamers
John and John NSFW. So wrong that its funny.

Hey uh, you should like, totally read mine.

>_>

I also highly recommend Ugly Hill. It's part of blank label comics with Real Life, it's well drawn with a great style, usually pretty funny, not hilarious, but cute and amazingly consistant. I still can't believe he draws all those panels from scratch every time and somehow manage to make them look identical.

Better looking than most cartoon shows and the plots are really original. Great character development. It's like that tv show you loved when you were a kid.
