Don't tell a mini Dachshund that they are not on par with a Rottie or Doberman. My black and tan mini is way more sassy than some of those "bigger" dogs lol. Eric my mini Dachs is 12 weeks old as well and they have pretty similar coloring! Link is the best cuddly lap dog ever lol. You are going to love your new little buddy, not to mention he is going to be a huge chick magnetBusteeQT wrote:I think I pictured you with a Rott or Doberman.

As promised
Link and Pixie
A few pics of them hanging out on the bed (where they spend most of their time lol). They "help" me fold laundry sometimes as well.
Also the facebook link that sometimes works to the full album

For some reason, I feel the urge to give that dog a wooden sword, Firebird. He looks like a Link.
I need fewer water.

Heh, Firebird, maybe I'm biased, but the brown one is adorable
And Imeut, special as in wears a helmet and rides the short bus, or...?
EDIT: Quick question for those in the know: would the remotely controlled shock collars used to train bird dogs and to teach them to keep them away from rattle snakes and such be useful for teaching a mini dachshund not to bark and whine and howl incessantly when you put them in their crate for the night so you can go to sleep?

Re: Post yer pets
I don't know about those collars for training. I have never ad probably will never use a shock collar. So someone else could answer, but I can help with the crying and barking.
The reason he whines and barks at night is because he is used to being with another creature (probably his sibling) at night time. He feels lonely and abandoned and doesn't realize you will be there in the morning. The best thing to do is place the crate somewhere on eye level with your bed so he can see you. I put mine when Soleil was that age right on the bed. You can also bring over a table, or chair. Don't just leave the crate on the floor in the room, he has to be able to see you.
If he continues to whine and cry then shush him, but never pet him or pay any other attention to him, or you are rewarding the bad behavior. After about a week or two he will understand that you aren't going anywhere so can move the crate to the floor. After another week or two you can move it to where you want him to sleep. Once you move him out of your room (I never did with Soleil, once she was potty trained she sleep with me) give him a shirt you have worn (and don't mind getting pee on) that hasn't been washed so he can smell you.

Re: Post yer pets
I'm afraid I am no help with the crate training, both my minis sleep under the covers as close to a person as they can get. No barking, crying, whining just a cold good morning nose in the face

Nah, it's zoophilia. Furfags just like dressing like one when they're at it. Totally not hardcore enough.Mav wrote:Yiff in hell, furfag.

Toni, that's some interesting stuff. I'll have to see how he does after I get the doggy door installed and the baby gates up to keep him in the tiled kitchen instead of the carpeted everywhere else.
Firebird, I'm still a single man. Not really digging the dog under the covers with me thing. It may work mostly but from time to time that could be an inconvenience...

LMAO, despite what you may have heard being married does not stop that. There are other beds for them to sleep in and once they stopped being anxious they don't mind sleeping elsewhere.Deacon wrote: Firebird, I'm still a single man. Re: Post yer pets
The old ticking clock in the crate with them might help as well.

Deacon, also, the shock collar would most likely be counterproductive.
