Dam, that's a lot of dust. I recommend replacing it with a water cooling system.

If he keeps using air cool I would definatly suggest a filter on the fans. 'Cause that is just gross.

Re: Post Your Stupid Questions- Tech Version
Wow. That's bad. Reminds me of the systems I've repaired for people who smoke in the house, just worse.

Your equation is wrong; it should be (cats + smoking) * years = ugh. But that is truly nasty. And I thought my system could be bad... But I use canned air on my systems regularly.

Re: Post Your Stupid Questions- Tech Version
That's pretty rough, although I've seen one worse.
Friend called me in to help on a system that wouldn't power up. Short story even shorter, I pulled the PSU, and opened it up, and it was completely caked. I'm not talking about a coating of dust, either. It was literally packed full.
We took a shop-vac to it, cleaned it all out, and much to my surprise, it powered up right away and worked fine.
I'll have to call him up and see if he can send me the pictures we took. I've never seen anything like it.

Stupid question:
Can I use a USB extension cable from the 1.1 days on a USB 2.0 device at full 2.0 speed?
Not sure if the cables are the same or if they differ in quality/grade/shielding like CAT5, CAT5e and CAT6.

The speed would slow if you used the 1.1 extension to the 1.1 speed instead of keeping with the 2.0 speed.MasteR wrote:Stupid question:

I call BS. I have full speed 2.0 devices across some very old USB Extension cables back from when I was fresh into High School and I get great performance across them.Cyberliger777 wrote:The speed would slow if you used the 1.1 extension to the 1.1 speed instead of keeping with the 2.0 speed.MasteR wrote:Stupid question:

Quoth USB.org:
Q: Aren't the requirements for cables different at the new higher speed or will Original USB cables work with Hi-Speed USB?
A: Fully compliant Original USB cables will work fine at Hi-Speed USB speeds. USB cables are not all fully Original USB compliant and it is important to evaluate cables that you intend to include in your products.

Well it seems to work. I copied 2gb in under a minute over it.

So 2048 megabits divided by, say, 50 seconds = ~41Mbs? That doesn't sound all that fast.

Ok, I am thinking about getting a new computer, and I was pricing various configurations from dell.com. Specifically, I was looking at the RAM, and I saw this:
2GB DDR2 Non-ECC SDRAM, 667 MHz, (2 DIMM).
I had one question after seeing that. What the hell does 2 DIMM mean?
