Oh. Optimus Rhyme. That's another good group with some gangsta stylings.

But please, enlighten me, what exactly is considered as rap? I thought it was black guys or white-but-wannabe-blacks with more bling than brains talking talentlessly over a bed of music about how hard they had it growing up, doing lines, hitting hoes, putting caps in each others asses, driving a Mercedes 500 SEL IN THE GHETTO.
But someone mentioned Will Smith so colour me confused now.
Name some songs that you think are good and I will give em a try.[/quote]
Here, listen to these. You may not like the music, but it should help you not be so irritated by the subject matter and such. This is intelligent rap.
Last Trumpet- Lyrics Born
The Message- Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five
Gone 'til November- Wyclef Jean
Rebel Without a Pause- Public Enemy
I can go on, but that should be enough.
One more from Lyrics Born. This guy is a lyrical genius, seriously. If I could find "Pack Up" it would be perfect for this conversation and is just insane like any of his music.
Explosive- Diverse Feat. Lyrics Born

Suprisingly, John Cena (yes, the wrestler) is a pretty good rapper.

"Luck is a word the ignorant use to define their ignorance. They are blind to the patters of force that drive the universe, and they name their blindness science, or clearheadedness, or pragmatism; when they stumble into walls or fall off cliffs, they name their clumsiness luck." - Tan'elKoth in Blade of Tyshalle

Old rap is good rap, Lucksi.
Can't appreciate the old school. You have to agree though, it isn't a bunch of ignorant dumb choruses, is it? Also, Wyclef is Rap like Evanescence is Rock, there are different sections of rap, just like there are different sections of rock like metal, emo, and punk and such.

Come on everybody, where's the love for Vanilla Ice?
Yes, I am joking
I'm gonna have to check some of this stuff out... I don't like most of the popular rap/hip-hop genre, but I randomly discover individual songs that I like. Oddly, it all seems to be older stuff.
