So, I had this thought, of draining / pressing most of the liquid out of a bunch of coleslaw, and then mixing in some breadcrumbs or cornmeal and a beaten egg or two .... for deepfrying.

Would that work? Would they become cornbread coleslaw hushpuppies, or not work?

Wouldn't the lettuce and cabbage in the coleslaw get all soggy and gross? I personally detest coleslaw, so I wouldn't know how that would taste all together.

It would probably work if you battered it properly (so it didn't fall apart). And no, it wouldn't get all soggy so long as the oil is hot enough (400 - 425ish). And you wouldn't fry it for long at all. I'm just not sure it'd be any good.

Well, it would be covered in breadcrumbs, and then probably some sort of batter, so hopefully the cabbage and sorts shouldn't soak up any of the oil (or clarified butter...)

But cabbage and lettuce get soggy when hot. Not necessarily when it comes in contact with oil.

Ooooooh ... hm. Shoot. I did forget that they'd wilt. Maybe if they were pre-wilted?

Well, then it's not really coleslaw, it's mush. Also, the mayonaise might have some weird reaction to the hot oil. If you like cabbage, why not make saurkraught and try that in the hushpuppies? It'll add a bit of bitterness that might actually be tasty inside something breaded and fried.

Hm ... that's a good idea.

I'm not really really into coleslaw, mind. I just was poking some coleslaw and wondering how it'd be deep fried, and then running with that idea. It's how I come up with some good ideas for food (like mixing mashed potatos with beefy soup) ... and yes, some really bad ones, too.

Kitsune's Insanely Easy Potato Soup

Ingredients
Potatoes - peeled and cubed
1 cup corn starch
1 cup cold milk
big spoonful o' butter [I guess you could use a tablespoon or two, I just usually get a big serving spoon and scoop a chunk in there]

Directions
Boil cubed potatoes. Mix corn starch and milk SLOWLY and once corn starch dissolves pour SLOWLY into mixture. Chunk the butter in. If you don't do this slowly you get little lumps o' corn starch in your soup and ew. Simmer till potatoes and soup reach satisfactory heat and consistency. If it needs to be thicker *****mix corn starch in mixing cup with cold water and THEN pour into soup*****. If it needs to be thinner add a little more milk. Serve with cheese and bacon bits, or slice some tomatoes and lay on top, or do whatever. Potato Soup is just beggin for some fixins. [wooo southern drawl].

This recipe can be altered to make as much or as little as you want. These specifics feed ummm roughly 5-6 people, or 2 people for 3 days. It's AWESOME for reheating.
