Sorry to say Thorsman, but it looks like you had no actual rebuttal for any point I made.
Sorry to say Deacon, but I've never said anyone on this forum was stupid or otherwise for being Christian. I may disagree with Christianity, but I've never come out and slammed it.
You're probably right, and I've confused you with any number of other goofuses out there. That said, I find the following post of yours somewhat ironic:
Besides, Deacon, if your stance on your religion can't stand up to decently objective criticism, what's the point in having it? JudgeMental doesn't seem to have the same problem as you do. As I see it, Deacon, you seem unable to see open and intelligent disagreement with your beliefs as anything but an attack on them. I find that rather unfortunate.
What I find rather unfortunate is the haughtiness with which you dish it out and the overblown air of wounded defensiveness you adopt when you take it, especially when "it" is a passing, mostly joking comment. I'm sure you'll argue that the difference is that I didn't take a large part of my day to lay out in detail the various points of disagreement I would have with your belief in magic, but I'm not convinced that's a requirement you have the right to impose on everyone else. And the most fantastic bit of irony (or rather hypocrisy)...

You don't even know what my beliefs are, but guess what? It doesn't matter. You can raise your eyebrows and close your eyes and be dismissive of anyone who doesn't treat your "beliefs" with kid gloves, but mainstream or other irrelevancies aside, the "legitimacy" of your ideas is not for you to decide or declare. You can either be an angry little child about it, or you can develop a sense of humor. Your choice. Either way, drop the pretentious invention of rights and ideas as to what you "deserve."
OK, Deacon:
First of all, objective criticism and intelligent disagreement isn't the same as out-and-out bashing, and the latter is what you seem fond of doing, be the views political, religious or otherwise that you don't agree with. The haughty defensiveness, in fact, comes most readily from you.
Secondly, regardless of what your beliefs are, you seem to make sport of bashing ones that aren't commonly accepted ones. Whatever your beliefs are, you obviously hold little regard for those outside of your own, as is evidenced by your comment that sparked my rant in the first instance.
Thirdly, it's not a matter of "treating beliefs with kid gloves." It's a matter of figuring out that people sincerely hold various beliefs and aren't just doing so to be rebellious, nonconformist or "cool." If you don't know what respect and consideration of others is by your age, I'd say you're the angry little child and not I.

You took a bit of offence to my disagreement with it, which is your own problem at the end of the day.
OoooooohGet over your own self, especially your cluelessness about Asatru and other beliefs that don't fit into the mainstream. My beliefs are just as legitimate as yours, even if you don't like them.

Potential advice: Take their advice. If you believe you don't have to take people's beliefs seriously, and don't necessarily need to give them creedence and respect ... the barbs of people like Deacon become nothing but meaningless ramblings. Laugh at them and be merry, for they are nothing to you.

Yes, Thorsman, he's the angry little child because he made an off-the-cuff, flippant remark about something that happened to pertain to you.
You are the epitome of mature because you got butthurt and brought it to another part of the forum instead of letting it slide.

Butthurt, no. Compelled to address an issue, yes.
And by the way, for those of you thinking of this thread in terms of win and lose, you're missing the point of the original post. The point was to address an issue, not to say "I'm high and mighty and I think you lowly so and so's should do as I command."

lololol the ol' "I'm rubber, you're glue" defense is fantastic, especially as once again you have completely and totally dodged the point in order to instead attack me as an individual.
You know what? Yes, we get it. You subscribe to a silly little niche religion that apparently is picked on enough for you to have a massive hang-up about it and an easily pressed hot-button stamped on your forehead, just itching for a chance to pick a fight to defend your poor, beleaguered new-age, polytheistic, magical religion. You thought people would be cool about it and think you were cool because you're so non-conformist, or maybe not (despite what you claim), and it just hasn't worked out for you. The problem is that the more you act this way, the worse it makes you look, and the more urgent the invitations to continue and escalate the "scrutiny" you seem so pouty about being subjected to... And what's great is that you took such a small, innocuous comment and instead of having everyone rush to your side in your defense, you've simply shined a big ol' honkin' spotlight on the silliness of your stance on it and your demand that no one ever make any joke about your religion or treat it with anything but the utmost respect and reverence you seem to think it deserves. It's not a winning gambit.

Really? One short, passing, mostly joking comment about your already suspect beliefs, and you're going to go on about how I'm "making sport of bashing ideas that aren't commonly accepted." As though "commonly accepted" has anything to do with it.Secondly, regardless of what your beliefs are, you seem to make sport of bashing ones that aren't commonly accepted ones.
