OK, seriously, maybe RealDolls work great for you, but for most people that won't cut it.

Oh come on  that is a little harsh...

Sex isn't exactly rocket science, you know. Whereas the actual act is pretty mindless, the emotional side isn't...but I see what everyone is getting at, so I'll choose my words (or in this case acts) more carefully next time.

Again, maybe the physical act of bad sex is pretty mindless... but if your focus is getting your partner off and you're mindful of them and taking their cues and responding to them to get the act just right for them - it can't be mindless.

And Deacon, the only bit of your whole spiel I'm bothering with: I didn't quote Cypher because everyone's seen the Matrix, and so the words he speaks contain a huge negative connotation (and how somewhat misses the point that, pretty much, if it's accurately coded, to the brain there IS no difference between eating a Meatspace Steak and simulating eating a Matrix Steak) ... and that is, I imagine, the context it was brought up in - as a counterpoint, counting on the negative branding (thank you, zefrank) that comes with it being Cypher that's quoted.

I believe this point was brought up earlier in this thread; yes, the digitally encoded brain have all the same stimulation, but I would think people will think of it as fake because they are still thinking of their old body as "reality." After a while, I'm sure people would accept the digital mind and it's experiences as their new reality.

Hm. Perhaps. Perhaps not. Wouldn't know until we tried, and I can't say. But on the other hand, when you show them what it takes to be able to, say, eat kobe steak every night, and show them that they can conjure a fully cooked steak perfectly done every night just by *thinking* about it, perhaps, I think many people would be willing to accept the "illusion", instead.

Also, anyone else have any thoughts on digitization being used for body-swapping (upload and then download into a new body), instead of 'merely' leaving the new consciousness on a computer?

Your insistence on the constant use of the not-as-cool-as-you-think-it-is term "meatspace" wears on me.

Hm. Well then: what would you suggest I use instead?

I would think "...to the brain there IS no difference between physically eating a steak and simulating eating a steak..." would work just as well.

It's not a crime, just an annoyance.

Also late but meh.

Well, I think going digital would be useful. I would only want to do that during old age. That way I wouldn't have to die of some horrible disease or organ failure. I could also continue to write and share my ideas with the world.

Lord knows your ideas are invaluable.
