See, the problem here is, I can't think of any reason where it's ever okay to put an infant to death, unless, MAYBE, it's going to live in extreme pain for a week and then die anyway. Seems to me that no matter HOW rare it is, it's still shoving the problem under the rug. The truly problematic should be cared for, not discarded. It's not THEIR fault, and how is anyone to know if they are capable of feeling hapiness?

Around here, we do not necessarily keep those ALIVE that are in such conditions, but we don't actively kill them.

Please note, I'm not condemning a culture here, or accusing anything. Just commenting.[/quote]

It’s humane to think that it’s not okay to take an infants life. Taking ones life is not only taking ones life. How young it may be, it does have parents and it does have family, so it’s not one only one life that is ended and everything else is unaffected by it.

As I stated before it only happens in extreme cases and only if the child is mentally/physically challenged in a way that it does not have a chance to experience an joyful life. This might sound cruel to you, but letting them live an extremely painful life where it’s really, really, really unlikely they will ever be able to do anything just to sooth your conscience is, in my opinion, even more cruel.

Oh, by the way I would like to note that it’s not something the Dutch people are proud of. A couple of years ago there was a huge thing in the newspapers that doctors refused to use euthanasia in these cases. The reason I mentioned this is that I wanted to note that we aren’t as utterly devoid of things like compassion and charity as Deacon is ;)

Euthanasia will only be used on infants as a last resort and to be honest I don’t really think it’s such a bad thing.

Ding. Thank you.
Taking ones life is not only taking ones life.
I see. I wonder, are you the one qualified to make decisions about what makes life worth living? Somebody more qualified than you? Do they go to a special school to become Omnicient?

You mean that a person who will always have to bear an infinite amount of pain since birth should just deal with it and live on? Even if no matter how much help that person receives the pain and suffering won't go away?

And I'm not cocky enough to state that I would be qualified to decide over ones life, cause, well I'm not. I'm not compasionate enough to make those decisions. Anyway, if in a rare case death is mercy why not be merciful?

PS. Don't be silly, no being is omnicient!

It depends the severity of the problem, and whether or not they simply need a hand from the tax payer, as they might take longer getting a job, opposed to complete welfare reliance.

It's still charity either way, which I think is the point.

I don't know that it is. Charity is giving someone something that they haven't done anything for. Social programs are accessible to only those who meet certian requirements.

Well, if social welfare is charity, then I have no problem with making it a burden on the tax payers.

Stupid goddamned hippies. That's all I have to say on this matter.

Yeah, but the problem is entirely that they're stupid; them being hippies had little to nothing to do with it.

Actually, I say it partially did. Hippies tend to have an unbreakable sense of morals when it comes to animal rights, so strong they think they're worth more than giving their child the proper nutrition it needed.

Yet the thing is, it's not that they baby had a "vegan diet" that cause it's death, it's the fact that it had a bad diet. Not all vegan diets are bad, for baby or for child or for adult - the parents were too dumb / negligent / whatever to ensure the baby got proper nutrition (which their being hippies didn't prevent) - so it's stupidity that killed the kid, not hippyness.
