That's ... a bit question.

As a man, I suppose it's hard for me to make an educated statement on the subject... but I don't think I would. I really don't think I could. I've always felt such a situation can create undue stress, tension, unhealthy relationship factors, etc.

I mean, if all goes as planned, and the relationship with your sister stays good forever, then fine. Excellent. I suppose that's perfect.

But what happens if someday there's a falling out, and now this person you hate has a child that is in some major way yours? Or what if you develop a serious emotional bond while carrying the child, and want to keep it? I think you'd have valid claim. What if you miscarry? Would they hate you then? Would you feel guilty? What if the pregnancy causes a severe or crippling injury or disease in you? Do they have to take care of you physically and financially then?

It's just... too big of a thing to involve outsiders in my opinion. I feel like it's just PRONE to huge and horrible consequences. If it were ME, I'd tell them I'm so glad they loved me enough to ask, but I just can't accept.

Actually, I don't ever intend to have children of my own. I have no desire as kids just don't fit into my plans for life. I would have absolutely no problem carrying the child to term and handing it off to her as soon as I possibly could.

Well I suppose that part doesn't matter then, but the other questions are still valid.

Point, though: I'm pretty sure there have been other women with the same feelings that have carried surogate before, and the actual carrying of the child changed how they felt.

Additionally, if you don't want to have kids, the pregnancy is gonna cause a lot of changes in your body you wouldn't otherwise experience.

I already know this, trust me. I know ALL ABOUT pregnancy and what it does/can do to a woman's body. I know there are potential health risks, I know it would be a long, complicated process. But she is my SISTER and she's going through a really hard time right now. The only real solution to her problem is a hysterectomy and I think the least I can do is at least give serious consideration to doing this for her.

I've often considered being a surrogate. It's one of the greatest gifts you can give to someone. Once pregnant it's really not that complicated either... it's so wonderful! I think it's great you're considering this.

How could you know anything about pregnancy Imeut? That information is so hard to come by! You should listen closely to what Blaze has to say. In fact, I think you should let him decide for you. You are clearly incapable of making such a decision yourself.

I don't wanna sound like a jerk here, and I hope I don't. Certianly, it's a wonderful thing, if you can do it. I just think it's probably too worrisome... too many problems can crop up. But again, you can probably resolve a lot of those just by talking to them for a long time about it before hand.

I've only known one person who has ever done this, and SHE regrets it. She says they didn't talk about it enough first, and after the little girl was born, she wanted to see a lot of her, of course. Not be mom, but certianly get some... mom time. Meanwhile, the other two thought she was trying to take their daughter away from them whenever she suggested she could keep her for a night here or there, and they just sort of cut off ties, and she sees neither them nor the kid anymore.

But since I've only known one person, that's probably not a very good base line. I'm sure many people are successful at it.

And Terrene, shut your hole. It's a goddamn opinion, and I expressed it as such.

No, you shut the fuck up you emotional, overbearing craphead. Maybe I missed Imeut asking for advice from some dimwit who's known one person with a negative experience and thinks he is just so right and wise. I must have skipped over the post where she said "Please! I am so dumb an uninformed! Someone come tell me what to think and feel!"

Deciding to be a surrogate mother is a HUGE decision and I've never seen any indication that Imeut is too stupid to give it the consideration it deserves.

Actually, Blaze, you came across as grossly insensitive earlier. You weren't the one whose distraught younger sister called them, in tears, because she'd just received the traumatizing news that she would never be able to have kids like she'd always dreamed.

Also, I <3 Terrene.

Yes, it IS a huge decision, and clearly, different people have different feelings on it, which is the whole point of discussion. You know, human interaction and talking about things.

But apparently, passive-agressive bullshit, sarcasm and introspection without input are the limits of your communication abilities.

I said how I felt on a topic, because I had feelings on it. I said what *I* would do. Specificially. I never even SUGGESTED she should take what I said as any influence on her decision. At all. Is there someone in your life who constantly tries to control you, or something? Most people don't operate that way.

And Imeut: Well then I'm sorry. As said, I was posting my opinions, and how I felt on it, and what I would do. If you didn't want input, that's fine, but why get hurt because I didn't know that? I was not trying to make light of your situation there.

Blaze will one day learn the lesson so hard for so many of us men to learn: not everything ever mentioned is a problem that you have to bluster your way in to solve and put your nose in.

I never said I was hurt, Blaze, I said you came across as an insensitive asshole. Big difference.

Oh no, I already know not to solve these issues. That's why I was VERY careful to say "I", "Me", "how I feel". I thought it might be nice to comment on an interesting and controversial issue. Apparently not.
