I'm apparently the only person ever to have not heard of Little Mac...

Punch-Out, man.

oh. That fell squarely in the category of "dumb game", which means I sucked at it.

Re: Super Smash Bros. Brawl Mega Uber Update/Discussion Thread
Wow, here's someone who's in Smash Bros now (and by "in", I mean as a fully playable character, not just an assist trophy or something), who I never would have expected to see as a main character.
King Dedede from the Kirby series.
While I'm all up for new characters and all, and it'll be neat to have a new heavy character, can we get the king and Little Mac to swap? Dedede would be much more entertaining as an assist trophy.
I don't know why I find this one so surprising -- he's a logical character, I suppose, just kinda weird.
I think we need to see Tom Nook show up. He could smack people around with bags of bells.

I'm just interested that they've added a new playable character, they hadn't announced any new ones for ages and the game's getting close to release, you'd think they'd be done by now.

Dedede looks like a replacement for Ice Climbers, who were always fun to play as due to their sheer weakness
.
Nook? Naw, that Guitar playing dog would be much better
.
Man there are a lot of characters...looks like there's going to be a lot more than Melee, especially if they follow a similar pattern (announcing about half before release).

Replacement? The Ice Climbers are still in Brawl.

What do you know? They're right there at the end of the list. Interesting, I didn't see them there before. Perhaps he's then an 'upgrade' like Falco and Fox, or Doctor Mario and Mario from Brawl?

This one seems like a pretty big piece of news:
Stage Builder -- design a level for use in the game! I could totally see this feature extending replayability for quite awhile, maybe even the rest of your life! At least, so they claim.

And a new stage every day too if you have the internets. Can't keep 'em, but still.
This is gonna be one of the best damn games ever.

Re: Super Smash Bros. Brawl Mega Uber Update/Discussion Thread
Personally I'm not too happy with the current implementation they're suggesting. I'd much prefer a system more like what Halo 3 has now, a browsable list of downloadable stages that Nintendo thinks are really good. I would much rather be able to use a map that I like for multiple days than get a new one every day. What if, for instance, I see a great stage that I really want to try out with my friends (who don't have a Wii) some day? I basically would have to have them over that day or they'd never get to play it.
I really hope they figure out a way to allow you to keep certain maps. Perhaps have an option while playing the 'stage of the day' to perminantly download it. Or perhaps I just have an irrational fear/dislike of material that I can only view for a short period of time.

I think if someone sends you a stage you get to keep it. I quite like the current idea of one stage, one day, it's like if you have a bunch of friends who love Smash Bros. you have the chance to play an unknown stage, that way you're all on even ground as no one knows what sorta stage it will be. Either way, the stage builder is an awesome idea, I continue to wonder, with all the features that Brawl has, how they're going to top it for a sequel.

As it stands, it looks like all they could do is add every 3rd party character under the sun if they did aim for a sequel.
Seriously, I got nothing.

New assist trophy:
Frank Jaeger, the Gray Fox from the Metal Gear series.
This particular one bugs me, because they say "He approaches stealthily with lithe jumps, coming right in then slicing repeatedly. Awww! It makes you want to use him as a playable character." So, they're basically taunting us.
I like the idea of assist trophies in a way, but, in some ways I wish some of them were just playable characters instead. I mean, Dr. Wright would just kick ass.

Re: Super Smash Bros. Brawl Mega Uber Update/Discussion Thread
I think the main issue preventing more characters from being playable is that all characters need to possess suitable moves from their original games that can be mapped to the following:
1) A special move
2) An up special move
3) A down special move
4) A left/right special move
6) A physical attack move
Not only that, but the actual move itself should suit the direction of the move (i.e Link's special left/right throws his boomerang to the right/left). Sonic barely had enough moves to squeeze into Brawl, even now his special up (the spring jump) seems a little tacked on. It also helps if they have something distinctive from their games that can be used as their entrance sequence, their taunt and victory poses and their shield.
