Blah. You're right. Can't really explain my comment in any sort of depth; so Makh, just ignore my answer - it's crap. It's commentary on the resignation, rather than discussion.

We might not know for a long time. But there are two possibilities:Makh wrote:Now Gonzalez, Rove left before him, Bolton quit UN. Rumsfeld had to go too. Wolfowitz and Libby were forced to leave because of scandals. Why is everyone leaving president George W Bush?
1. Rats leaving a sinking ship
2. Housecleaning on the part of the administration after a belated realization that they needed new blood
Powell left in part because of family pressure. I think he may also have felt betrayed over following orders from his president and then finding out that the evidence on the alleged chemical and biological weapons was overcooked. And I still do not understand why Powell left. Or why Tenet, CIA direktor, had to quit too.
I think Tenet left because the weight was going to come down on him, fairly or not, for failures in Iraq and follow-up activities in the search for Osama bin Laden. His leadership and decisions have been heavily criticized in at least two different reports that investigated how he handled al Qaeda activities prior to 9/11.
If I show up at your door, chances are you did something to bring me there.

I would like to point out that Tenet was a Clinton administration hold-over, holding the position for three or four years before Bush took office.

Regardless of whose administration he served under first, Tenet's actions are still questionable. Yes, it may be unfair to lump him with the Bush administration, but accountability is accountability regardless.Deacon wrote:I would like to point out that Tenet was a Clinton administration hold-over, holding the position for three or four years before Bush took office.

That wasn't the point. He was brought up in the context and as an example of someone from the Bush administration resigning, and that being a smear on Bush.

Bush has nominated Michael Mukasey to be the next Attorney General. I have personally never heard of the guy before.
