9-25-07 - Halo 3
I don't want to get flamed by a halo fan on my first post, so please be kind, but...
"Arguably the biggest game release in history"? ...really? I mean... no disrespect to the Halo franchise, the games are wonderful, but... really?
I know I don't like FPS's as much as the next person, so I'm probably biased, but I wouldn't even call Halo 3 a contender for game of the year. I mean, it's the third one. The second one played like the first one over again, and the third one looks like the same game once again. As far as shooters go this year... what about Team Fortress 2?
I'm sure Halo 3 will sell an insane amount of copies, just based on the popularity of the first game. But so did Pokemon Diamond (a game which I enjoyed, but I'm silly like that) and I wouldn't call either of them "the biggest game release in history."
I dunno. I don't have an XBox360 thingy in the first place, so maybe I'm as out of touch as Character-Greg. Just my opinion fellers.

They're projecting to make 200 million in the first 24 HOURS. Whether I understand it or not... that's the facts as I've been told them.

It made my day to read this comic. I agree with Greg that an online game surviving 10 years is a bigger landmark in gaming than the release of the next sequel in a popular franchise. Happy gaming to all!

If I were Liz, I'd just throw an XBox360 controller at Greg, but that's just me.

Same, I needed this today, cuz it's my birthday and I have never played Halo.
We need a Screw Halo shirt. I'd actually buy that.

Re: 9-25-07 - Halo 3
Halo 3 has now made more money in it's first day (30 hours or so) than just about any other form of entertainment, more money than any movie release's first day, more money than Harry Potter's latest book's first day, more money than any other game's first day.
That's what we, in the biz, like the call 'arguably the biggest game release in history'.
Just saying, ya know...TF2 isn't even on the radar when you're talking Halo 3 (and I like TF2). Pokemon Diamond? 50 million in it's first 5 days, not even close.
I don't want to sound like a Halo fanboy (I don't even own a 360), but this game's release quite clearly fits the statement 'arguably the biggest game release in history'.

I'd go along with 'arguably the biggest game release in history', personally.
Why? Because y'all are arguing.

How much are they charging for these games anyway? The last console I owned was N64 and I only ever had 3 games for it :p
I think the next best game coming out is gonna be starcraft 2...

One of many reasons, you aren't Liz.ampersand wrote:If I were Liz, I'd just throw an XBox360 controller at Greg, but that's just me.
$59.99 USD for the 'Base Model'Springy wrote:How much are they charging for these games anyway?
$69.99 USD for the 'Limited Edition'
~$130 USD for the 'Master Chief Edition (which comes with a Cat sized MC helmet, and is seemingly an amazing waste of money)
At the same time, you're arguing a statistic that varies from product to product. Look more at the number of games sold. HP #7 cost half the price, so in order to match it's "money made" Halo 3 would only have to sell half the units.Binks wrote:Halo 3 has now made more money in it's first day (30 hours or so) than just about any other form of entertainment, more money than any movie release's first day, more money than Harry Potter's latest book's first day, more money than any other game's first day.

Infin, HP7 was less than a third (under $20), and that includes tax. Everywhere was giving out massive discounts.

Re: 9-25-07 - Halo 3
I would argue that getting people to pay $60 automatically makes those purchases 3x as important as the $20 tickets. To get a huge number, even 1/3 as many people, to pay 3x the price seems to me to require something at least as important.
