Would anyone be interested in a dive trip while we're out there? Joanna and I are looking at some possibilities to get some diving in. Firebird, you may be able to suggest some stuff as all we've found are wreck dives and what PADI would consider deep dives (60'+), and it'll probably be too cold for any fun snorkeling.
A very large man is ripping your ears off Percy. I suggest you do as he says.

I hate to brag...

But given the right tools I can make a mean spaghetti. I'm talkin delicious, man.

That reminds me. Jez, we need one of those electric skillet things.

Doesn't diving require certifications/training?

Yes, unless there are resort dives available. I've not heard of the Outer Banks being a dive destination. I wouldn't be entirely against putting my PADI card to use, however :)

I generally prefer warm water, though, I must say...

Does the spaghetti sauce have onions in it though?

onions can be easily nixed entirely from the recipe

Note: I can't tell you if this changes the flavor, as I can't taste the bastards anyway

Damn, well I guess I can cross that off the dinner list when you come to visit, just kidding I promise no spaghetti.

Yes, but some dive shops also allow exploratory dives. However, I don't think OBX offers any dives that are suitable for non certified diving.

I would venture to bet you would want to have/rent a full wet suit for anything in this area during that time of year. However, if you're interested, we're definitely interested. The biggest problem we're facing is that it looks like any diving worth the cost is going to be a 2-hour boat ride to/from the site, and it will most likely be a wreck dive.

Also, Joanna and I are down for Spaghetti anytime of the week.

The only diving place I am aware of in Hatteras is http://www.outerbanksdiving.com/. It's funny I pass the place on my way to work and was shocked to see them tearing it down today  . From what I hear they are putting a new building in but I don't know when they will be back up and running. There is a lot of current off the coast here and not something I would recommend for a novice diver. Wreck diving is going to be the number 1 offering you will find here. Most of the wrecks are fairly close in. It's only an hour to the gulfstream and they would be closer in than that. We fish some right off of Hatteras that take 30-45 min to reach. They don't call it the "Graveyard of the Atlantic" for nothing. I'm sure they offer different types of trips I would contact them about what might suit you (no pun intended).

Pretty sure that out of all those on the "going" list, only 3 don't count as novice divers.

I wasn't sure... that's why I was throwing it out there. There is also time for anyone interested to get a certification. I know the price is dropping fairly dramatically for certs in some places (A store near my in-laws was advertising $50 class!!!) THAT is why I was asking :)

Sadly, Greg and I won't have the money for diving classes, although wreckage diving sounds awesome. We just bought our Christmas/Valentine's/Anniversary gift and it hit us a little harder than we had anticipated, so we're a little broke. :(

Hey Liz, did you get my PM? I sent it right before the craziness, so I wasn't sure.

I am a couple thousand in debt and can barely justify a trip that costs me a full grand (at least), much less the cost of lessons, gear, etc., especially when lessons would involve me dipping my pale ass in a cold lake in March of all godawful months, so that I can dive in April of all godawful months.

Meh, no thanks. I'd rather go to Cozumel and do a tourist dive first to even see if I like doing it. You guys have fun in the cold ocean--I'ma sit in the hot tub.

Maybe in a few years when Joanna and I have our instructor certs we can do an exploratory dive. Even still, that's not the best location :(
