This doesn't appear to be a top 10 Wombat.

I'd have to go for Xenogears... Awesome game.

the proskater series
the game boy zeldas (and LttP)
chrono trigger
soul calibur 1 and 2
the entire capcom vs. series especially mvc2
golden sun (havnt bought the lost age yet)
the metroid series
the mega man games (excluding battle network)
and now the games the i get all nostalgic over:
crystalis
faxanadu
monopoly NES. such fond memories of being 7 and giving myself max money and paying the cpu 2000 whenever it bought a property.
echo the dolphin on my best friend's genesis
pharoh's tomb on the tandy 1000. one of the first games i remember playing. good times. good times. stupid rest of my life that left me bitter and jaded after i realized the hard way that i couldnt fly
I can count to purple backwards!

Two words:
Supah Metroid.
What the hell else is there to say?
Amazing graphics at the time (and still hold up today), some of the best MIDI I've ever heard, and the overall experience. Hell, I still get chills when I enter that wrecked space station, with the bodies of scientists on the floor, and then finding the metroid larva in a seemingly abandoned room, only to see two glowing eyeballs staring right at you. Ridley kicks ass. Samus kicks ass. Super Metroid kicks ass. Best game ever.

Addition:
And did anyone see that ending? I've never seen rainbow colored things deliver so much ass whupping. There are so many things that make it awesome. Anyone who hasn't played it will burn in hell. Anyone who has played it but hasn't beaten it will also burn in hell, but at much warmer, more pleasant temperatures. Also, if you beat it fast enough to see Samus without her armor, you get a cookie (baked from the fires of hell)! Yay!

I get to skip the hell part, but I don't get a cookie. :( I beat Metroid Fusion with 100% and saw Samus without the power suit; does that count?

Is Metroid Fusion the greatest game of all time?
(I'm still working towards that myself... Got 3:11... Darn... I don't want to use guides either. Did you?)

MattESPY: I know it's my favorite metroid game, but not everybody agrees. I like the fact that it's pretty much the first Metroid Game with a plot. I didn't use a guide, but I had to get on gameFAQs to find out how to reach the lv. 4 security room. I also needed gameFAQs to find a few of the energy tanks and missile containers.
