10/25/2007 - The Arrival

Talk about today's strip, or anything about the comic in general. You can also talk about any of the characters... but don't expect a response. They're FICTIONAL, you guys... sheesh. :)

We went to the one just outside of San Antonio, but we saw one further north towards Austin.

its funny that this week its been down in the low 50's. the weather this time of year is interesting. it can be freezing cold in the morning and up to the 90's by 3. or it can freeze for a month. there is no such thing as "normal" weather here except in the summer but even then this summer it rained everyday for a little over a month.

edit- oh and a website that will be really handy when you move out here is austin360.com no one had mentioned it yet so i thought it needed done.

Bigity, there are a couple of others, but the one between Boerne and San Antonio (yes, Leon Springs) is where we went. The other one's in Selma, outside 1604 on I-35 toward New Braunfels.

Rudy's ... the one that sells the BBQ sauce?

Well for all I know it could be something else. If it's the trump bbq, I'd expect something other than a franchise. /shrug

So I figured maybe there was another joint called Rudy's something or other.

I concur. A friend of mine from NYC thought it was the second coming...
Man, the Deans need to go find one of those nice, small, out-of-the-way joints. Now THAT'S good barbeque.

And while I'm at it, I like barbeque sauce, real chili does have beans (and beans in chili probably began in San Antonio, so it's ULTRA Texan), and most of us don't own a gun.

The Salt Lick. :)

The one in Driftwood (even though it's a bit of a drive from Lockheart), not the one at 360/Westlake.

Though I haven't found a good place that does a good dry rub rib in Austin yet. :(

I'm pretty sure we will be BBQ experts by the time we move away from Lockhart. Lockhart, afterall, is the "BBQ Capital of Texas".

Most Humid Cities[%]:
Morning/Afternoon
Quillayute, WA: 93/73
Gainesville, FL: 93/60
Olympia, WA: 92/64
Port Arthur, TX: 91/64
Lake Charles, LA: 91/63
Eugene, OR: 91/60
Jackson, MS: 91/58
Tallahassee, FL: 91/55
Corpus Christi, TX: 90/62

What was that about humidity?
Wow, that's some impressive googling skills you've got there. However, that research was published ten years ago (Check out the title bar). Have you actually looked at the current and forecasted humidity percentages for those cities?

City: Current/ Overnight Forecast
Quillayute, WA: 58/82
Gainesville, FL: 75/82
Olympia, WA: 52/79
Port Arthur, TX: 40/74
Lake Charles, LA: 47/81
Eugene, OR: 63/71
Jackson, MS: 93/90
Tallahassee, FL: 72/80
Corpus Christi, TX: 26/60
Houston, TX: 36/68

Charleston, SC: 83/90

The only city on that list more humid than Charleston is Jackson, MS.
I'm sure there are other cities in the southeast in the same range, but they're not listed in your precious little outdated top ten.

I don't know that I'd call a local BBQ place with 2 to 4 locations a "franchise" like you would with McDonald's or Applebee's, especially when they're owned by the same person.

Oh. I've seen something like three in Austin, and then if there's more down south, I figured ... wrongly, I guess. Alright, in that case you're right.

Actually, according to http://rudys.com/locations/ they apparently have opened up franchising, though they don't seem to be advertising or pushing for new ones (there's not even a "franchising" link for info). I had no idea.
