10/25/2007 - The Arrival

Talk about today's strip, or anything about the comic in general. You can also talk about any of the characters... but don't expect a response. They're FICTIONAL, you guys... sheesh. :)

I emailed Greg my recommendations on BBQ for Lockhart.

I also discussed the scorpions.

And when I say scorpions, I do not mean to rock you like a hurricane, I mean to sting you like a bee.

Can I get a copy of that?

It's pretty simple - there's four places. Black's, Kreuz', Smitty's, and Chisolm Trail. Black's is the oldest continuously family-run BBQ in the state, from what I gather. They've also done some catering for the white house in the past. :D

Do any of 'em serve rubbed ribs, or is it all sauce / do any of 'em have a yellow sauce?

Er, that was more directed at fletcher than Greg.

http://www.kreuzmarket.com/index.shtml (pronounced cryt-ziz) by the locals. widely renowned as 'the best'. I don't personally care for it that much.

http://www.blacksbbq.com/ (meh in my opinion)

http://www.smittysmarket.com/ (was related to kreuz at some point, and from what I have heard, basically the same quality. suffers from a worse location that kreuz (which is right on 183))

chisolm trail (no website). Honestly my favorite. Its the most run down place, but it has a drive through, with this awesome family plate that will feed your family of 5 rather easily, and for only like 16 bucks? I can't remember which night, but a few of the nights the family plate has chicken fried steak.

None of these places is the meat about the sauce. Texas BBQ is about the meat, and the wood.

Of course, Austin has a ton of good BBQ places. There is Also Rudy's (http://rudys.com/ ), County Line (http://www.countyline.com/), and The Salt Lick (http://www.saltlickbbq.com/). The last two have all you can eat options, which will hurt you if you're not careful.

None of them are bad, and everyone has their own personal favorite on what is best.
