New Comic - 11-7-07 Adaptation

Talk about today's strip, or anything about the comic in general. You can also talk about any of the characters... but don't expect a response. They're FICTIONAL, you guys... sheesh. :)

New Comic - 11-7-07 Adaptation

I like how Greg is willing to depict Comic Greg as almost childishly innocent. Self depreciation, correctly applied, is almost always comic genius.

Yeah, I enjoyed this one quite a bit. I love the last line, it got a good laugh out of me (and made everyone else in the house wonder how I can be laughing this early in the morning :P)

You know, I've never quite grasped recessed lighting...it's just weird.

So I totally love Greg for pointing out the unnatural-ness of it :-D

... you mean they don't generally recess lighting?

I kind of have recessive lighting (I'm in California, to mention), in the form of fluorescent lights stuck in the ceiling with no covers. I wonder if that counts... Silly dorm room designers.

Well, if you have recessive lighting, I have repressed lighting. I turn it on, but I cover it up so as never to let it shine.

Back to gas lamps and all that? Some Neons move in, and there goes the neighborhood?

I'm not a fan of recessed lighting. It works in some houses, but I just don't like it mainly because I have to deal with one of my hated enemies every time I want to chance the bulb - the ladder. I have a deep fear of ladders. Right now we have a ceiling fan/light fixture and I intend to keep it that way.

Not a problem for me - I'm freakishly tall, so it's all good. :D

And to answer an earlier question - it's not an issue of not having them in CA, it's an issue of never having lived in a house with them. It feels FANCY.

Well, the fluorescents are pretty much just jammed right into the ceiling, which looks very awkward. It doesn't help that one of them really doesn't work; it sits there and flashes every 2 minutes or so and then turns on for 10 minutes at random intervals. We changed out the actual bulb-rod-thing but it still happens. Yay chances for electrical fires.

Sounds like your ballast is going bad.

To the comic, apartments don't generally have overhead lighting, let alone recessed lighting...so...to go to a house where there is actual overhead lighting that is actually installed in a manner that makes it look appealing (not like those 70's globe lights that hang by the thin rod) would be quite a shocker. And to actually live in that house would be quite nice.

Recessed lighting just looks nice, especially when you have low ceilings and don't want to put in a huge light fixture to bring the ceiling down more.

I have oppressive lighting. I turn it on and it won't let me turn it off or leave the room. Bastard tyrannical lighting!
