MIPS asm is nice (looking at it 'round the web), but x86 is what I deal with day to day, so it's far more interesting to me. Combined with the ins/outs of the PE file format, it keeps me thoroughly entertained.Ciaroidbh wrote:MIPS assembly is actually pretty intuitive...much more than that x86 assembly.

C++ is generally a good launching language to move to any others. Once one language is learned, going to another is easier.
C# is described as a combination of C++ and Java. Visual Basic, latest revision, is actually as powerful as C#. C# excels in micro or hardware level, while VB is great for the macro, databases, for example. However, each can do both, but easier in one verses the other.
Assembly..... Yeah.... Hardware people love it, software people (me).... not so much.... I've been through x86, MIPS, and Motorola.
Other powerful scripting languages are Python and Perl.
My advice, look at where you want to go and ask someone in it. They will love to talk about their job.
