1/9/08 - The sign vs Liz

Talk about today's strip, or anything about the comic in general. You can also talk about any of the characters... but don't expect a response. They're FICTIONAL, you guys... sheesh. :)

1/9/08 - The sign vs Liz

Post by Roundtop » Wed Jan 09, 2008 6:49 pm

I agree with Liz.... why put up a sign for a cruddy piss-tasting, low alcohol, "beer".

That and it is as cheezy and redneck as that stupid singing bass.

Just because you live in Texas does not automatically make you a Redneck. It takes generations of dedicated inbreeding to get it right.

It's a pretty cool lighted sign, actually. Really simple in construction, but it moves the background colors to make the "It's Miller time" appear and disappear and the colors move through so it looks like colored rays of light bouncing across the scene. It has nothing to do with the beer it's advertising. Greg and I can't stand that shit.

I once placed a comment in some Java code that said "Miller time!" and forgot about it when I checked it into version control before I went home. The next day I get 2 irate emails from the client and a talking to from 3 different managers. I felt like Peter in Office Space..."Yeah, I know, I'm sorry, it won't happen again" Lather, rinse, repeat.

Maybe I should have had a Bud Light...

I'm trying to figure out who's crazier, Greg, or Greg's grandmother.

Heh, I think you need to get your terminology straight. I don't know any inbred rednecks. Maybe you were thinking about hillbillies?

As for the sign, hang it! Just so long as you don't actually drink Miller it's ok.

What's wrong with being a hillbilly?
Definition: hill·bil·ly -
noun - Often Disparaging and Offensive. a person from a backwoods or other remote area, esp. from the mountains of the southern U.S.
*Points to self* I'm from the Ozarks so doesn't that technically make me a hillbilly? Both my husband and I grew up in families shooting guns and living in the woods. I can guarantee that we all wear shoes, have indoor plumbing, and don't spend the majority of our lives past the age of 15 pregnant. :P (Though I can't deny knowing a few like that...) Personally I'm proud to be a "hillbilly" at least if the economy tanks again I'll be able to shoot and grow my own food.

Any chance you could post some pics of it in action?

That sign is total white trash. Did someone say that already?

Clearly, your version of white trash is very all-encompassing.

The sign is just something my grandmother picked up years and years ago... someone gave it to her, and she had it hanging up -not long after it was made, actually. (The date on the back says Jan 28, 1982) As a kid, I found the dancing lights completely mesmerizing, and a few years ago while at her house, I found the sign down in the basement. I was ecstatic - it was just one of those memories from a kid that made me happy. Sure, it's for Miller - a beer which when compared to piss, is unfair to piss - but I don't care. The dancing lights are fun. And apparently, after some research today, they've been doing the dancing lights thing for about 2 decades before my sign - there are some old, old versions of the sign on ebay right now for about $65,

Beer sign =/ White Trash, dude. Some beer signs are very artistic and creative - I saw one for Blue Moon at a bar in S.F. that I'd kill to have - very well done.

Besides, the sign is banished to the office where Greg gets most of his "things" that I don't deem appropriate for the rest of the house. His desk his is play ground and he likes it like that.

I want to find my typeface signs and post them around the office. Some people have periodic table posters, I have typefaces. :D

Sounds like me and my deer antlers. I'm still trying to talk the wife into letting me do a European mount on the next one. :)

You still talking about the antlers in this part? Sounds rather kinky.
