15 Feb 2008 - The Law

Talk about today's strip, or anything about the comic in general. You can also talk about any of the characters... but don't expect a response. They're FICTIONAL, you guys... sheesh. :)

Five bucks says the massage is going to be done by Hanz, the sweaty muscle guy who rubs a little too hard, just to keep the law in effect...

But does the bad guy also have to pay the bill for the presidential suite at the Ritz?

Frankly, I was rooting for Murphy. His law is merely stating what's essentially true ^^;

(As I understand it, the real Murphy hated the common interpretation of his "law," especially in that it was used by civilians.)

I thought this was a really, really clever story. And I also enjoy it when Greg goes all out with backgrounds like these strips.

I kind of like the idea of some guy named Murphy wandering around the world, always protected by his law as everything bad befalls his enemies.

Sounds like a good superpower choice. Forget super strength and x-ray vision, I want bad things to happen to anyone who doesn't like me! 8)

I'd have to agree on that point, super strength == ripped shirts and hernias. X-Ray vision == bad hair (you could never look at mirrors). Flying == Bad landings, etc.

It seems to me that the law *did* kick in on Tony's plan- the thing that went wrong, though, was that nothing went wrong. :P (Tony planned on something going wrong, so by nothing going wrong, it... went wrong...)

Yes.

Personally, I found the new backgrounds and poses, the daringly different layouts, the closeups and the special effects of the entire Murphy arc to be fascinating. They all lent immersion and weight to the drama, suspense and humor. The ending, especially, was entirely fitting and hilarious.

Way to go, Greg. 8)
