Aspiring writer finds hilarity

Post by PKSullivan » Thu Feb 21, 2008 8:33 pm

I've been a RL fan since '02, faithfully reading the updates. The forums called to me because I haven't been an active member of one since '01 (when I was posting daily on the Wizards.com D&D boards) and I want to be part of a community again. I've read the archives thrice now: once as I started in '02; over the summer of '05; and once just last week when I was bored at a temp position, burned through all eight years of archives in three days. Hands down, this is the funniest webcomic I've come across. Nearly every strip has made me smile and a few were laugh-out-loud hilarious ("Kid, you are freakin' me right the hell out, you know that?" gets me every time [May 03, '06]). That is why I am a loyal RL reader.

I just finished my undergraduate degree in business administration in December and I'm looking for a job but not having much luck.

My passion is for stories. Telling them, listening to them, reading them, watching them. It is my goal in life to become a respected science fiction/fantasy author and win the Triple Crown of Science Fiction. Neil Gaiman, George R.R. Martin, Frank Herbert, Roger Zelazny, H.G. Wells, Poul Anderson, Philip Jose Farmer and their like are my heroes. I've listened to old Shadow radio dramas, actively hunt for Doc Savage reprints and am currently going through Doctor Who withdrawal. Star Wars was once an unhealthy obsession for me but I quit cold-turkey once New Jedi Order began to turn my stomach.

I role play, not as much as I would like the last few years (my college group fell apart with people graduating or giving up on school) but I just started DMing a new campaign and it has me excited. Video games are fun but I am very picky. I used to be huge into FF but I've lost interest since X (V-IX are golden, though). It did, however, lead me to FF Tactics and the strategy RPG genre which has become the focus of my digital gaming. My DS is perfect for me because many of the strategy RPGs being developed are DS titles. It even got the first official US translation of Front Mission, a series I adore. Rondo of Swords looks brilliant and I cannot wait for FF:TA2 to come out in the US. I'm waiting to get a job before I pick up Luminous Arc and hounding a friend daily to lend me his PSP and War of the Lions.

My first novel has a few chapters completed but it will be some time before it is completed. I have plans for multiple books in that universe, numerous other ideas for other worlds and at least one graphic novel I want to create (though I'll need an artist; Andy Kubert would be ideal, I love his work in Origin and 1602). There are several short stories and parts of stories on my website. I haven't updated it in a while as I've been focusing on the novel but there are some things to peruse there. Feel free to stop by and let me know what you think.
