29 Feb 2008 - Rotten Tomatoes

Talk about today's strip, or anything about the comic in general. You can also talk about any of the characters... but don't expect a response. They're FICTIONAL, you guys... sheesh. :)

1 out of 5 is not 1/3. Particularly when that one only WANTED to be part of the five, but isn't ACTUALLY. Unless you're only a third of a person. I might accept that.

YES. That. Out of the five people, I count as a third of one of them, because I was cognizant of and wanted to see the film but never got around to it.

That wasn't bloody well obvious?

I got it. No you don't. Something that is NOT part of a group (people who saw a movie) does not count as part of that group because they WANTED to be. I thought you were a college student?

Literally, yes, but apparently no one's ever heard... eh. Screw it, it's not worth it. Whatever.

I liked the movie Eragon.....

Granted I haven't read the book yet. Just haven't got around to it.

Liz, while I'm sure this isn't news to you, my experience with design professors is one of 2 things:

1) They will only give you a decent grade if your design resembles what they already have in mind for the end results of the project
2) They are upset because they feel your design should have developed more than it did from the last submittal.

That's just in my experience... pickel concurs :D

OMG it's annoying though. I completely agree with number one in this case. My teacher actually designed something and told me to turn it in. One moment he loves my design, then next moment he wants me to start from scratch. It's just sooooooo frustrating!

I feel like part of my artistic ability is being torn from me because the teachers are making me design like them and not teaching me to design like myself but polished. My designs aren't bad, they're actually pretty good, but he wants me to design like he would. What good is that?

Forgive me if I don't want to base my opinion on a movie on whether or not X % of people getting paid for their opinions think it's good.
Notice how your smart-ass reply has absolutely nothing to do with the post to which you're replying. Notice how nobody said anything about basing your opinion on a movie on whether professional movie critics like it. Instead, it was pointed out that it's purely to gauge how well it's being received by critics, which may influence which of several movies you end up seeing at the expense of the others, for instance, etc... Seriously.

Opinion on a movie includes opinion on whether or not to see that movie, as that is indeed the first opinion one can form of a movie. Therefor my comment has direct relevance. Also I was further establishing that saying a movie is bad just because of it's low rating on RT (the position taken in the comic that started all this) was IMHO a dumb thing to do.

It's interesting how generally you find that shitty movies have a low freshness rating while great movies have a high rating. Things in the middle can be hit-and-miss, but generally the rating is a decent indicator of whether it's a quality movie.

For reference, I have now watched Art School Confidential and actually enjoyed it somewhat, its masturbatory pretentiousness aside. It was well acted, but its plot was fairly ham-fisted and much too...linear? Is that the word I'm looking for? Like Crash Bandicoot herding you down a narrow alleyway of movement. Anyway, that said, I now get Liz's quip about her experience and likening it to the movie.
