Well, which one of the two do you have? That might be a better question.
I thought that the basic symptom would be the seizure but I don't know anything about it (apart from quite a few jokes, but they're all in pretty poor taste).

According to Webmd there are 20 different conditions that could have disorientation and muscle twitching/spasming as symptoms.* Three of those are different types of epilepsy.
The quick search I just did on google seems that only thing that could definately be a symptom of epilepsy is actually have a series of seizures. I didn't dig real hard for anything either.

The human brain is amazingly adaptable.ampersand wrote:I knew a girl in junior high who had such severe epilepsy seizures her family eventually took her to the Mayo clinic for an operation that at the time was considered experimental. They ended up removing over half her brain, and somehow all of her functions just seemed to move to the confined quarters of her tiny little brain. So when her family called her "pea-brained" it's not too far from the truth.
One other thing doctors will do is use maggots to clean wounds of dead flesh. Helps with gangrene and a few other things. Maggots only eat the dead flesh and leave the living flesh alone. Although these maggots have to be specially grown in sterlie conditions so they don't spread disease. Here's the link Warning: Not for the faint of stomach.

First, some information: The reason she's still mostly functional is "neuroplasticity".adciv wrote:The human brain is amazingly adaptable.
Second: It bears repeating: the human brain is AMAZINGly adaptable.

Still, I wanted to throw it out there in case anyone wanted to go looking up more on it.

What is this fascination people have with diagnosing stuff online? It's not like you'd have a doctor present--in person--to look you over and determine what to do.thejerseyminx wrote:According to Webmd there are 20 different conditions that could have disorientation and muscle twitching/spasming as symptoms.* Three of those are different types of epilepsy.

Around 6-8th grade, I was having dizzy spells every few days, always when I stretched. These days, I just get the muscle-twitching. [Keep in mind that I'd been on Ritalin from 4th grade to around 6th grade.]Rorschach wrote:Well, which one of the two do you have? That might be a better question.

Well some people like to go to their doctors with a little bit of research so that they can ask informed questions regarding what they are experiencing. Not to mention that it does cut back on the number of times some people may just run off to the doctors for something they could have figured out themselves.

Re: So the question is, "Will your HMO cover the proceedure?"
I can't count the number of times my docs have been impressed (yes, they used that word) that I knew what I was talking about, or that I knew and understood what THEY were talking about. Most of my doctors have learned to trust me when I come to them and say "I think this is what's wrong...what can we do about it?" or "Hey, doc, I would like to try this med in place of what I am currently taking to see if it works better." It beats feeling like an idiot when they tell me things. Or being like my sister, who blindly trusts her doctors and doesn't know anything.
Case in point: She had her gallbladder removed several years ago. I had mine removed a year and a half ago, so I called her to find out WHY they removed it. Her response? "I don't know." Excuse me? She said "I don't know. They said it needed be removed, I asked them how long I'd be down. They said a few days at most so I said go ahead." I would never, ever let a doc removed something unless I knew why. She trusted them because they said so. If I did that, some of the nerves in my spine would be burned out at the moment by a pain care doc who didn't know what he was doing. It pays to be informed.

But it still doesn't list anything as being a treatment for blood clots, but rather a being used on very rare occasion in a preventative role.StruckingFuggle wrote:I thought it was fairly common knowledge that leeches used an anticoagulant as part of their feeding process, and that that substance had medical usages even in modern, western medicine.
