Ok, this seems to be where stuff like this gets posted, so here it is.
I was just informed today that my company is being bought out by one based in Burnet, TX, which looks about an hour northwest of Austin. Not that anything has even gone farther than wild speculation, but I might have a position there after we clear out of our facility here. The whole process is likely to take about 6 months, so I'm really in no rush, but I thought I'd ask about the area now since I know a bunch of crazy people from this community are in that area. I plan on traveling out there eventually if this goes any further to get a feel for the area.
I know Burnet is a bit rural, and I'm not sure how I feel about that. Ideally, I would live in Austin, but this seems a bit long of a commute. I have been there once for a few days, and I did like the city from what I saw. Any suggestions for a good compromise location?

Well, you have a nice town to the south of Burnet called Marble Falls (quiet, nice lake, not that small). It is about a 15-20 minute drive to Burnet but you are about an hour from Austin.
To the east is Georgetown but I’ve never been there.
Round Rock is just north of Austin and might be your best option. It is still bit of a drive (50 minutes) but your closer to Austin. Plus you wouldn’t have to deal with Austin traffic to and from Burnet.

Yeah, Round Rock sounds like a possibility I would recommend.

It's a PTFE (teflon) reprocessing company. Nothing to do with non-stick pans. We get scrap PTFE from industrial producers like dupont. We basically clean it, mill it, and resell it for various purposes. Extrusion, molding, or as an additive for greases or other plastics. There's couple other uses that aren't comming to mind.
Basically, our supply is becoming scarce and expensive as the major companies move overseas. There really isn't room for two companies anymore. Also, Florida is a bit expensive on the property side. Our rent was really the final straw. It's somewhat of a small operation to begin with. There's two companies in the US with a combined workforce of about 20-30 people.

Georgetown is...nice. It's a bit too much of a bedroom community for my tastes but some folks seem to like it. Round Rock, however, is a great city. Traffic is pretty light, all the amenities you need are right on hand and it provides ridiculously quick access to Austin...when the Austin traffic is cooperating.
Cedar Park is another place to consider, but the 183-toll road is the major route in and out. Something to consider if toll roads infuriate you.
Then there's Leander. It's another bedroom community, so it has your typical amenities (Grocery store...etc). I think of it as Cedar Park-lite.
