*Facepalm* You're right, that is a stupid phrase.
Hm. I'm not sure if its even correlated to begin with, it may be "no correlation".

Re: (Tall Women) and Men.
With that kind of reasoning, you would think that our minds would be able to get past this evolutionary tract and be attracted to whatever. However, our minds are still wired to believe that he who is biggest is strongest. Yes, rationally we can say that David can beat Goliath, but ours minds perceive height to be superior. When you see two people go head-to-head, ours minds already believe that the tall and muscular will beat-out the smaller man. Rational thought of whoever is stronger or more skilled goes completely out the window with the prejudice that "bigger is better".

Height doesn't equal bigger or more muscular, though, either ... though I guess you can define "bigger" in a way that makes that untrue.

Re: (Tall Women) and Men.
Tall=bigger - atleast in our minds. All I'm saying is that we (as humans) unconsciously see someone who is taller to have the upper hand. Is this true? No, not at all - but it's what we automatically think when we see two people. I knew a guy who was about my height and super buff, but I always thought of him as kind of wussy because he was short. Even now, I try to imagine him trying to take down my 6'3 boyfriend I had at the time and I still have a hard time seeing it. (He was our top wrestler in school and could probably take down my ex in a matter of moments, yet I still can't imagine him winning a fight.)

I have noticed something. Women who are average tall, 1,60 m to 1,75 m, will prefer taller man and they will tend to avoid smaller men, but, very tall women like 1,80m to 1,90 m for example, will not have problem with men smaller than they are. I can not explain it. Perhaps because thos women know they have to live with their height anyway, or because passed this height, difference between both is less important (or less perceptible if you want.)

Er, sorry, but men mate with everything. We are "hardwired" (most overused term in this thread) to spread our seed far and wide.Lizzegirle wrote:Attraction has a deeper root than just symmetry. Men mate to find someone to birth their children- and in such find women that are capable of rearing and (usually) have curves like breasts and hips.
But I agree with the whole "seeking taller types". I'm 6'2", and I've never had a problem finding girlfriends.

basically, if your malnourished and/or diseased, you tend to be shorter, if you eat well and are healthy, you tend to be taller... women like taller men... pattern much?

Re: (Tall Women) and Men.
Nonsense. People can be perfectly healthy and still be shorter than average. I for instance, eat a healthy diet and exercise frequently, thus keeping my body in good shape and as disease free as possible, yet I am still just slightly taller than the shortest girls I know.xxobot wrote:basically, if your malnourished and/or diseased, you tend to be shorter, if you eat well and are healthy, you tend to be taller... women like taller men... pattern much?

Re: (Tall Women) and Men.
What's weird, though, is that this does not seem to be entirely automatic; that is to say while we seem to be attracted to people who would seem healthy, that consideration of what is or is not healthy is more ephemeral, and it varies across cultures depending on what indicates health in that culture. For some, it's tall and skinny, for others it's short and plump.
So it's not entirely a case of "tall = healthy = sexy".
(observation: a mere look at medical records should show that either our instincts do a shitty job of parsing out who is and is not good breeding stock, or we ignore those instincts a lot - which seems weird when so many people & the evidence seems to indicate that we do at least pay heavy accord to those instincts.)

Re: (Tall Women) and Men.
I don't. The word implies a correlation which doesn't actually exist. If any correlation exists it is that people on the very bounds of the spectrum are the most likely to be unhealthy. So what xxobot said was indeed nonsense. Height has very little, if anything, to do with the health of the individual.Arc Orion wrote:Somebody misunderstands the meaning of "tend".

You haven't given any evidence to claim that, though. Mind, neither has xxobot provided evidence for his claims, but then you never questioned him in that way. You simply gave yourself as an example. Are we to assuming you're wholly representative of the entire population?

No, but I am an exception to his supposed correlation, and I know I am not the only one who is an exception to that. For instance, the tallest man ever alive died because he WAS tall.

Oh, so because you know of at least two exceptions, the correlation doesn't exist?
