Ok. I'm no expert, but I was under the impression the burden of proof was on the one making the initial claim. I was merely pointing out that I had seen no evidence of it. I merely gave two examples; those weren't the only ones I've seen. How does disease create a height disparity? There is no logical reason that a lack of height is indicative of disease. So it is merely an unsubstantiated claim with no proof or even sound reasoning. But then again, I am sorry I questioned it if it is so ingrained in your belief system.

Maybe not, but Health of the individual CAN have something to do with height, making height a potential indicator of overall health. The correlation between health and height isn't terribly hard to sort out CS. Look at the rising average height in America as industrialisation led to to greater understanding of healthy eating and first world status. Observe that a large number of unhealthy behaviors and childhood diseases can "stunt growth" leaving an adult shorter than they would "naturally" be had they not been unhealthy. That doesn't mean that unlimited height = unlimited health, but a correlation CAN be made, particularly at a gut (or subconscious or hardwired or WHATEVER) level. Also, the tallest man ever died from an infection he received from an infection he developed after an ankle brace gave him an infection; not from "being tall".

Look, you may not see it so much in your day-to-day life in the fairly wealthy and healthy western world, but growing up in Latin America there was a phenomenon that was colloquially referred to as "the tortilla factor" whereby the poor and the rural (often goes hand-in-hand with poor) were raised with poor nutrition. They ate primarily tortillas, rice, and beans. Few fresh vegetables, few meats, almost no variety. While they survived, the result was often shorter individuals who weren't as bright as people even from their same family who may have grown up a little better off and could have better nutrition, especially during childhood and adolescence. They often grew taller and were brighter as a result. We're not talking about better educated specifically, but rather brighter, quicker, more common sense, thought more quickly, more able to grasp new concepts, etc.

What you see around you is reminiscent of the real world in very few ways. None of you are scrabbling for survival, so your idea of what may be "normal" will generally be off compared to those humans who are indeed working and scraping just to survive.

You both are making claims without providing evidence. That's what I'm trying to point out. Are you so lost in your own little world you can't understand that?

Remind me not to get into an argument in this forum over whether men prefer big or small butts.

I like big butts and I can not lie
You other brothers can't deny

And a round thing in your face
You get sprung....

None of that had anything to do with a health->height correlation which you were claiming was the reasoning BEHIND the choosing of taller men. You just gave evidence that women choose taller men normally, which is something that was asserted from the get go.

good point, disregard my last comment, basically theres lots of evidence that women like taller men, but not much explanation as to why...

I think the biggest issue here is that in the modern age we know that taller does not mean better, stronger or anything for that matter. Our educated side of our brain tells us this. The more primal side of our brain makes a very uneducated relation between tall and stronger.

When we as a group were at the hunter gatherer stage, the stronger dominated. Then some person/group learned how to farm and domesticate animals, enter the clever. On some level, most women are still attracted to those who meet the old idea that taller was stronger. Yet like many of the women here can tell you, after years of chasing the "Ideal" men, they begin going for other qualities that will truly give their children a real leg up in this world.

Granted, there is an exception to very rule, and you will always have the women who pick the totally useless men for one reason or another but this can usually be contributed to other factors.

WTF?? Why do you have my signature?? Get out of my head!

Honestly, my thought process was as follows, no lie:
1) Hey, that guy has my name in his signature.
2) Oh wait, that's my signature.
3) Wait... That's not my avatar...
4) And that's not my name...
5) Wait! That guy isn't me!

I'm having such an out-of-internet-body experience at the moment, I look at my username and I wonder if it's really even me...
