Well, that can't be true. I was raised in a family where my parents kept me out of sex ed, and taught me themselves, and I didn't go around getting girls pregnant..... nor even having sex. If the parents are good, then sex ed is not necessary. In fact, it really should be up the the parents to teach that kind of thing.

Might explain a few things...(cheap shot) Not having sex doesn't make someone better or make the parents successful.

The fact of the matter is that everything is a crap shoot. There is no sure way of preventing these sort of things.

Blah blah blah plural of anecdotes is not data, yada yada well you had sex ed anyway, so what's your point? so on and so forth ahem doesn't mean you have a healthy view of sex, ahem... hem.
If the parents are good, then sex ed is not necessary. In fact, it really should be up the the parents to teach that kind of thing.
Well, yes, but that's a rather big 'if' and one you can't exactly even come close to rely on.

As that would involve girls wanting to be around you.

In fact, it really should be up the the parents to teach that kind of thing.

Ewwww I don't want my parents telling me how penis goes into the vagina and what not. Gross!

Didn't say that. I attributed it to good parenting, if I recall. I am saying that just because the parents are religious and don't think sex ed is a good idea, doesn't mean their children will turn out like that.
collegestudent22 wrote:and I didn't go around getting girls pregnant.....

Seemed to me that Fuggle was implying that children of parents who don't have their kids go through sex ed will have children that go around getting pregnant.....
collegestudent22 wrote:nor even having sex.

Well, it made them successful at instilling their values in me, which is what parents are supposed to try to accomplish. It also made me successful at not getting girls pregnant nor getting STDs....

Yes, except for the fact that girls do want to be around me, mostly because I'm not trying to get in their pants.

Yes, and some anonymous teacher is better??? The specifics should be obvious once one goes to actually have sex. The rest is easily explained by the parents. And can anyone tell me why every student needs an in depth explanation of the biology involved....?

Yes, it is MUCH better. It was not an uncomfortable experience at all, and was actually kind of fun, because you're learning with your peers and the particulars of sex are kind of odd and funny.

Now I'm curious. Do you know the biology involved, or have you kept yourself ignorant?

Not 'will', 'are more likely to'. Like anything else, ignorant people are far more likely to make bad and stupid decisions about things than informed ones are.

No, someone made a statement and then you said "that can't be true."

That is also why it is important to know the biology.

It's really more of the phrases you've used, not so much as the points in your arguing.

Poor wording on my part and lets just leave it at that.

Edit: Removed issue from previous post.

I'd like to point out that this whole part of this discussion spawned from a comment I explicitly labeled as not being a serious argument. :)

Religion =/= ignorance. While they may not believe everything you believe, they do have a different way of teaching that, and why is it wrong? It has worked for years before public schools started sex ed.
That is also why it is important to know the biology.
Because knowing where the semen comes from is going to help me make more informed decisions... Right.... [/sarcasm]
Hirschof wrote: No, someone made a statement and then you said "that can't be true."
That was because the statement was along the lines of "Because they are Catholic parents....." That was the part that is not true.

collegestudent22 wrote: Well, it made them successful at instilling their values in me, which is what parents are supposed to try to accomplish. It also made me successful at not getting girls pregnant nor getting STDs....
Well, goody for you and them. Doesn't mean its the only way.
Never said it was. I said it was an alternate way, that can work just as well.

because it's... *gasp* science!
So teach it in a normal biology class, instead of spending time on outdated evolution "experiments", such as the Miller-Urey experiment.

I was responding your wording/statement, not his. Pay attention.

It makes more sense to teach a separate class about human procreation... to humans... and in the mean time inform them on the mechanics, safer decisions, and consequences.

As opposed to assuming everyone has lovely Catholic parents at home waiting to tell them everything. When I went through sex education in school they sent a form home with me for my parent's consent. To me, that is the smart thing to do. If my parents (Catholic) didn't want me learning about it through school they could have said "no." But they decided that allowing me access to film and images not readily available in their own library would increase my awareness and decision making.

You want to talk about outdated?
