Really? I guess that makes some sense. I've just never seen those words abbreviated like that. Actually, now I wonder why anyone would ever abbreviate that. You're saving, what, two letters? The only time I'd heard of the "Dee Tees" has been in regards to detox...

I hadn't seen such abbreviation either, and I think it's silly, but it's not so hard to determine from his context.

It makes sense in retrospect.

Sorry for the confusion--'d/t' is one of the med-speak terms I use in informal writing all the time. It's become a habit... :?

1. All entries have to be in by Sep. 15th. My goal is to have the business up and running by the end of September, and I will need the time for the printers to do their magic.
2. Although I would like you to post your ideas/designs here so that all the forumites can give their opinion, the final decision rests with me and Barbara.
3. I can only afford to pay for the segment for next gathering--I can't as of yet afford to pay for airfare from Australia (which I figure is worst-case scenario). However, as a token of my appreciation, the winner will have their segment for the next Gathering paid for by me, as well as transportation to and from the airport. All you have to do is get there. :)
OK, what is the reason for the poll? In your first post you say that you and Barbara will be the final decision and that something was going to be decided by the end of September. Well it's now the end of October and nothing is remotely close to being settled upon.

I'm saying this as a moderator and not as an entrant, but you need to have something decided by November 7th or else everyone needs to retain the rights to their designs and the competition will be ended. I would hate to have this friendly competition ruin any future events like this, but Martin (and some extent Greg) take a fair amount of liability by allowing a competition like this. We're all pretty good friends, but it just takes one person to get butt-hurt and try to sue someone because a) their design might have been used without their permission and b) the competition didn't end or follow the rules that we laid out before hand.

Really, I entered only to help you out. I have no need for the prize, but I was hoping to help ease the burden of everyone's trip if I did win. So it's not like I'm saying any of this because I want to get at the prize. Mostly, this whole thing has made me increasingly more uncomfortable as each week passes. We want to run a fun ship around here, but even pleasure cruises have rules to protect the users and the owners.

Anyways, please have a decision posted by November 7th. I don't know what your timeline was for paying Jarrod for the trip, but it should probably be sooner than later. I feel pretty uncomfortable about letting you pay at a later time since we've had this huge delay. That's something that will have to be worked out between you and the winner, I guess.

Poll or no poll, I think you should go with this design by Liz...

Possibly the reddish version of this, although I prefer the blue.

That does look seriously fantastic. But the white space still bothers me. It appears to be convex, slightly pregnant on the side that faces the backwards G. I know it's not, but the optical illusion is still there. Why not a much smaller/slimmer white space or perhaps a cleverly curved/whittled white space that adjusts for the illusion?

I gave it that much space so that when it was scaled down to business card size the break would still be apparent. Anything much less than that could possibly be closed by bleed issues or visually gone as small sizes. Plus, I'm totally not seeing what you are.

Guys, I'm really sorry about this. I had the trifecta of s*&t happen to me this past month, and unfortunately the business had to be put on hold until I got things worked out. I really appreciate you all being patient while I got most of the damage controlled.

As far as the poll goes, yes, Barbara and I have the final word--it's our business after all--but I'm not going to go back on my word at this point. The poll will have a deciding factor in what we choose.

Again, my apologies, and the poll is up.

I kept waiting for a poll to go up, and apparently it has. Here's the link: http://www.reallifeforums.com/viewtopic ... 13&t=26065
