CS22... >,<

The next time the Texas hill country has a big storm you should come down and sit at a low crossing. That way you can learn a thing or two about flash floods while nature cleans out some of the dreg in this forum.

Flash flooding is not a new thing and it is common almost everywhere. Getting hit by a good flash flood can be like getting hit by a tornado. Very fast, powerful, and doesn't last long.

Hurricane Ike is currently heading for the gulf It's currently projected to miss Louisiana. However, that could change. NO will still be in the fringes at best and there is the rest of the Gulf.

New Orleans should be fine as long as Ike doesn't go directly over it. However, I still wonder how people can argue against offshore drilling when hurricane after hurricane goes through the Gulf without a drop of oil being spilled....

The problem is hurricanes tend to start curving back eastward just about where it's projected to go on Thursday - Friday due to rotation of the earth and forecast. For it to be project to go that far due northwest has to be because they are expecting very strong upper-level winds, which tends to be the immediate factor when it comes to where hurricanes will go.

I think New Orleans is more likely to be hit than not at this point, but again, it's still too early to tell.

Even if Ike follows the path laid out, NO is going to get hit to some extent merely due to being within 100 miles of a hurricane.

Yes, but it will be further away then even Gustav was, and as such the levees should hold, and the city should be fine. However, if it goes straight over NO as a Category 4, like it is predicted to be by the time it reaches the coast.... I doubt the city will survive.

Many of their arguments don't have anything to do with spills.
If I show up at your door, chances are you did something to bring me there.

(sigh) This is the second time you have made this statement and this is the second time I'm saying this.

The U.S. Minerals Management Service issued a report stating that as a result of both Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, the number of pipelines damaged was 457, and the number of offshore platforms destroyed was 113, with a total of 146 oil spills recorded.
