Comic Transcription Project

Talk about today's strip, or anything about the comic in general. You can also talk about any of the characters... but don't expect a response. They're FICTIONAL, you guys... sheesh. :)

Dude, now it's saying my gmail address is being used by another user. Is it tied into a larger network where I might've registered elsewhere, but isn't authenticating me here and isn't sending the email for whatever reason?

EDIT: Oh well, Firekite works and seemed to have a previous registration for it...

So, mods - I just realized I never shared with you your real job here. :D Once a strip is up to muster, meaning the speaking order is correct, the characters are correct, and the locations are correct (And it must not contain ANY "DO NOT USE" attributes - if it does, just leave it as pending) go ahead and mark that bad boy as complete and get it out of the hopper. :)

Some of you may have already done this. If so, I applaud you. :) Keep up the good work, peoples!

Another thing that just kind of occurred to me. Occasionally, some people entering info get so far gone with diarrhea of the props/attributes that it's almost better just to delete all four panels and start from scratch on your own. A good way of knowing this is if EVERY SINGLE OBJECT IN FRAME is listed as a prop. It's not a prop unless it's important to the comic, in my opinion. If Greg is at the computer, then the computer's important, and MAYBE the chair. But the swords on the wall and the lantern aren't. Sometimes it's easier to just destroy and rebuild than to clean up the mess.

I'm noticing there's a character "Text" with a "sound effect" attribute.
There's also a "Sound Effect" character. (As well an "onomatopoeia" character.)

Which should be preferred?

I prefer "Sound Effect". Text is used when the entire comic is nothing but text - cases where it's a no-comic day, for example.

Onomatopoeia should be ignored. I know it's all grammatically correct, but "Sound Effect" is much more useful to people. Sadly, I cannot DELETE any of them - just append (DO NOT USE) to them. :P

How do we handle filler strips, like the "I'm exhausted so this is some text to tell you there's no comic" things.

I just approved one that I thought was well done:

I would assume if he attaches a picture that the picture would be described as well so people searching for "Penn" would be able to find that filler with the cool picture of them and Penn.

Meh. See this one.

What I ended up doing is creating a new character called Filler Strip and just typing it all out as Filler Strip's text. That helps identify filler strips and even lets you search Filler Strips specifically.

So, as a note, I've disabled anonymous editing, and am switching to a moderator-edited system. That said, we need your help! If you're interested in being a mod, send me an e-mail and I'll get you all signed up. Thanks!

Greg, in Re to the email I just sent you a little while ago... just registered for the fora and got the confirmation email just fine. It's just that other registration you had me do that I'm not getting the email for. Of course, I'm only telling you here for the sake of not sending you another email....

In any case, looking forward to working with you folks on moderating this fine piece of work.

Any updates on getting some more of us to help you moderate the transcribing? I sent ya an e-mail the day you first posted about needing more of us and haven't heard anything either way yet. Just wondering what's going on there. Hope all is well.
