Wed the 26th of Nov Comic

Talk about today's strip, or anything about the comic in general. You can also talk about any of the characters... but don't expect a response. They're FICTIONAL, you guys... sheesh. :)

he's just pointing out the fact that some road trip actually are like those old cartoons where the same background loops over and over again to give the illusion that the characters are actually moving:)

Personally, I like how Greg did the RealLife Car(tm).

He's also pointing out that the only difference between East Texas, Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico, and much of California is the condition of the pavement.

When you cross the border from CA to NV, it's amazing... on one side, you have this cracked, worn out road, and on the other, you have this nice, fresh, well-maintained asphalt. Aside from that, though, the only way to tell whether you're in San Antonio or Barstow is the little dot on the GPS. (Oh, and there are mountains in the distance in CA)

Clearly you've never driven I-70 across Ohidiana. Corn. Corn. Corn. Soy. Corn. Corn. Corn. Corn.

While missing the farm houses, the rest stops, the truck stops, etc.

The only remotely boring stretch of interstate I can recall is the stretch from about the Florida-Georgia line all the way down to Orlando, Florida. All I saw were hundreds of billboard signs either talking about Orlando or about Orlando. Orlando isn't that great of a town anyway! It's a Bear-size tourist trap!

(Yes, I love to travel, so there's not much that I would consider to be boring.)

West Texas is mesquite scrub brush and rocks once you get to El Paso you get into the high desert areas that dominate New Mexico and Arizona. (to cover the points yes I have driven the roads covered in the comic)

Still, with that said, 2 down and the rest of Travis County/Austin to go.

Having made the trip (in the opposite direction) just weeks ago, I can attest as to how correct this comic is... especially since I was on a Greyhound :-/

The man does have a point. It's nothing compared to I-80 in Nebraska, though. There's a reason why Bruce Springsteen's most morose album shares its name with that state.

I can trump that. I-80 across Utah.... Salt, salt, a tree with shoes on it in the middle of the salt, and lots more salt.

The high desert areas that are covered with scrub brush and rocks... and the occasional cactus or two. And at that point, you start to wonder whether or not there were cacti near the roads in Texas....
