Talk about today's strip, or anything about the comic in general. You can also talk about any of the characters... but don't expect a response. They're FICTIONAL, you guys... sheesh.

Well, that'd be the sort of thing such a system would do, but such transfer would take time, eh? So clearly it would be better for the company in question to continue to exist and function for a while before collapsing...

Also: if they go out of business, what about all of the people about to become unemployed, lose benefits, etc? You have to account for them, too. Or at least, ideally, accounting for them, too, would reduce the strain on the economy as a whole.
While losing a job is sad, they have to find jobs on their own. The government is not there to find you a job if you can't find one yourself. Unemployment benefits would help for a short time anyway.

You think all the other companies could absorb their share of the business that used to go to the failed company, all without hiring people?

Nope, but unless you want to have good unemployment benefits, it'd probably be better for those people to move out with the accounts instead of be picked up among the wreckage?

I'm sorry, but are you saying that it would be better and cheaper for a failed company to be propped up on a bed of tax money rather than paying for the temporary unemployment benefits for those who don't get picked up within a week or two?

Not entirely. I'm saying it's that or that, one or the other; I'm making the case for "one or the other", not "one", whichever works better at providing for the following in order: society as a whole, the individual employees of the company, and then taxpayers.

I can't believe no one has noted this:
It can't be "300 % more than most companies have". If most companies have one mascot (do they? Must be an american thing..), 300% more would be four. And if most companies have zero mascots, 300% more would still be zero..
(I may not be able to burn Randall Munroe, but at least I got Greg...
