Apr. 30th, 2009 - Beam me up Tchotchke

Talk about today's strip, or anything about the comic in general. You can also talk about any of the characters... but don't expect a response. They're FICTIONAL, you guys... sheesh. :)

I've got tickets to the Thurday opening at the local IMAX...

*mental math*

Six times bitten? :P (I'm counting Search for Spock, Final Fronter, NOT counting Generations 'cause I liked it, Insurrection, Nemesis, Enterprise, and Voyager.)

Granted, Insurrection, Nemesis, and Enterprise were on the tail end of things, so I guess I can understand some pessimism. Still, this film looks phenomenal.

Bitten by TSFS? I liked that one. A lot. Aside from the whole self-destruct thing, of course.

Meh - I think it's one of the more boring Star Trek films. Especially when you compare it with Wrath of Khan and The Voyage Home. :)

It suffers somewhat for being the middle part of a greater story, even if it does form a fairly contained story on its own.

Fuck Final Frontier though.

I like the list that was given to me a while back by John Krall, who used to be the chairman of SakuraCon. Basically, it renames most of the movies, just leaving the ones that remain appropriate and have truly no better name.

Star Trek I : The Pajama Party
Star Trek II : The Wrath of Khan
Star Trek III : The Search For Spock
Star Trek IV : The Search for Whales
Star trek V : The Search for God
Star Trek VI : The Search for Klingons
Star Trek VII : Geriatrics
Star Trek VIII : The Apology
Star Trek IX : The Vacation
Star Trek X : The Clone Wars

I can see that, though I guess I just like the character moments, especially the fact that they're willing to throw away everything to save their friend. And Uhura's big scene is one of the best ever in Trek.

We'll see. I'm not reserving any names for it until AFTER I see it. :P

Related, though... I know it's all prerelease reviews, so it doesn't REALLY count, but there ARE 17 reviews on there: http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/star_trek_11/

Not bad. Not bad at all.

...You just summed up my thoughts exactly.

Fortunately, with low expectations, maybe I'll get the Indiana Jones effect with this movie.

My friend (who generally gives sound advice regarding movies) saw it and said he loved it.

Open mind and a tub of popcorn, folks.
