Gotta love William Ware Theiss and the "Theiss Theory of Titillation".
Oh, and where does one get a movie uniform? They were awesome.

Frame #2: Liz: "Sorry, but if you think I'm going out in public in one of those uniforms, you've got another thing coming."
Umm, not thing. Think. It should be:
"Sorry, but if you think I'm going out in public in one of those uniforms, you've got another think coming."
Here's a pretty good discussion about it:

Otherwise, keep up the good work. I've been following RL since the beginning!

I agree with Brent. Pictures, or it didn't happen.

I just wrote this big long post, but then got around to checking the forum in your link, and it actually has a lot of very good statements on MY side. Most of the people supporting "think" tend to do so because "it makes sense", when it in fact DOESN'T make sense, either grammatically or in terms of pronunciation. Welcome to the English language - it is a growing, evolving language, full of all SORTS of fun idioms that may or may not make sense linguistically. However, due to the nature of things, the more something is used, the more "correct" it slowly becomes. I will say this - I've had this argument before, on this very forum, no less. I don't want to have it again.
Re: May 1, 2009 - Hailing frequencies open, Captain.
I just read it as:
If you think that [kind of thing] you've got [another kind of] thing coming.
Makes more sense than a pun that only works in spoken English. Rather than that site's reasoning attempting to justify something just as likely related to the fact that a lot of people tend to pronounce thing (especially: anything, something, etc…) so it sounds more like think. I'll concede the OED reference, but it is a separate definition from the verb think, and listed as a dialect or colloquial usage.

It's an idiom. That's all the justification I really need.

I hold with the Judas Priest school of thought on the matter.

Plus, it's impossible for it not to make sense linguistically. A think can be a thing.Greg Dean wrote:Welcome to the English language - it is a growing, evolving language, full of all SORTS of fun idioms that may or may not make sense linguistically.

And here I was waiting for someone to get upset that his first post was an attempt to be a grammar nazi and on an idiom, no less.

...Considering how many grammar nazis we have here, what's the big problem or trollishness? Yeesh.

Nazi Math?Nazi Math wrote:Among the three most important of racial groups in Europe, the following population growth was detected in the time between 1900 and 1930. Teutonic people: 124 million to 149 million; Latin people: 103 million to 121 million; Slavic people:166 million to 226 million. Assuming a constant level of increase, calculate the growth rate and the total increase of the three groups for a 10-year period. What will be the population percentage of the three groups in the year 1960 if these trends continue? Calculate, for the three points in time, the percentage of the European population represented by each group. What great danger do you perceive for the future of the German people if no basic change in this reality occurs? Fortunately there is justifiable hope that a reversal of these population growth rates is at hand.

Ha HA WRONG FUCKFACE! Think is a verb, not a noun! A thought could be a thing, a think can not. Think is specifically an action, and can not become a physical, tangible item. Proof you're all faggots, all hail Alice Cooper!barawn wrote:Plus, it's impossible for it not to make sense linguistically. A think can be a thing.
