Man...this blows. I dropped the Jeep off Tuesday around 11:30, and the 4 Wheel Parts guys were nice enough to then drop me off at the airport so I could catch my flight out. We'll see how well the service went. As far as I can tell, I have no reason to expect odd-ball behavior from this kit if it's properly installed. It is a little difficult for me to believe that I should be paying $60 for a set of 4 alignment cams (that's in addition to the $75 aligment fee already), but...

The part that blows is that I was supposed to be back here in San Antonio at around 4:30 this afternoon, so I was going to pick up the Jeep, since they got it all finished. Well, the inevitable vague "weather delay" struck again, leaving us sitting on the tarmac in Baltimore for like an hour and a half, and then the outgoing flight to San Antonio didn't even leave till ~5:45! 4 Wheel Parts closes at 6. Needless to say, I was le screwed. Now I've got to figure out a way to do a multi-car shuffle tomorrow to get it picked up.

I'm selling the stock aluminum wheels and tires (one of the few options selected by the original buyer), by the way, if anyone wants them. 15-inch Ecco cast aluminum wheels, 5 on 5.5, with Goodyear Wrangler 225/75R15's wrapped around them, ~22k miles on them, except for the spare which has never touched the ground, apparently. $500 for the full 10-piece set.

Here's a picture I snapped through the glass of the service bay where it was locked up tighter than a drum. She looks so lonely. I just want to hug her...

I'm about 99% sure I'm getting these:

You should hook your jeep up to a live webcam. It would be easier.

Awesome idea. I'll get right on that. Thanks!

I was going to create a separate Jeep thread, but I figured I'd just piggyback on this one :)

If properly jailbroken, iPhone + 3G + Jeep = JeepCam. All you need is the Qik app.

Though the "It's a Jeep thing" stickers are pretty stupid, I think they sum it up nicely. Unless you're one of the lucky few who get it, then no amount of explaining will make you understand. There's just something about a Jeep (and there are precious few true Jeeps left, the current Wrangler JK is the last still in production) that can't be quantified. The shear go anywhere, sure footed, reliability (though less on that last one with the newer minivan motor) can't be beat.

My 2001 Cherokee currently has 110K miles on it, and still starts right up in the dead of winter at -6*F. I've got a friend with a 96 Cherokee with nearly double that mileage, and his runs just as well (though he needs a new fuel pump soon). I have no qualms about driving halfway across the state, playing in the mud and on the trails all day, and driving home. I know my Jeep won't let me down. I've had guys with tens of thousands of dollars worth of lift and tires remark on where I was able to go with my stock 'Grocery getter'. There's just something about it that gets in your blood, that can't be explained, it must be experienced. Even then, most won't understand the joy in conquering that stubborn hill, or the simple pleasure of a Sunday drive in a Jeep. Yeah, it may ride harsher than your Camry, but they are at opposite ends of the spectrum. The Camry is purely a commuter, while the Jeep is a commuter, a weekend toy, and just as if not more reliable.

Is that really a jeep exclusive, though?

I'd like to see your WRX do the same :P

No, a number of vehicles can be modified to have many of those same qualities. If you have enough money to burn, you modify pretty much any vehicle in existence. But few indeed are as capable from the factory (and we're talking base model here), and few can stand up with it when it's modified. And none others have a soft top and fold-down windshield :)

My girlfriend has a 2001 Wrangler because she used to live at the end of a dirt road on the top of a mountain. Although now we live in the middle of town having a Jeep still comes in handy... for other reasons.
The first time we saw the additional benefits of a Jeep was when someone hydroplaned their 4 door sedan through a stoplight and into the passenger side front corner. All told it did $250 in damages to the Jeep, and the car was totaled.
Then about a month ago some moron, I assume trying to illegal park in front of her Jeep (beyond the "No parking here to corner sign), swiped the driver's side and hit the bumper.
Now, Wrangler bumpers are completely steel except for a 4 inch chunk of plastic on the end. The bumper itself was fine, I just have to get a $25 replacement part... The car that caused the damage (which wasn't hard to identify) has a dent about 1/4 deep all along the passenger side.

A whole 1/4 deep?
Is that bad?
